    It seems even this conference can't find a homeland. Maybe if we
    had a node ISRAEL::...... It doesn't exist yet.

If the United Nations ever finds out about this conference, they'll demand
that we return Gavriel's office to the Palestinians.
607.2Yes, but...SUTRA::LEHKYI'm phlegmatic, and that's coolTue Dec 20 1988 08:425
    Maybe, but the US won't let them in :-).

    Comparingly yours,

607.3Could this be a plot?FILTER::LIFLANDSaying PLEASE is polite DEMANDINGTue Dec 20 1988 13:4613

    	Does it not seem odd that nearly every Arab country is represented
    by a NODE name (EGYPT,JORDAN, & SYRIA just to meantion a few) and
    we have yet to be given a homenode. We don't ask for much just a
    little forgotten microvax would do. Maybe we could have an Israel
    node bond drive. Could we get matching funds from CJP? Or maybe
    this is a plot to control free speach and religion. First it's the
    node then it's scheduling meeting on the high holidays. Where will
    this end.
    	But then again I'm just being my usual silly and paranoid self.

    OK so I failed Typing 101. The intended title of this note is

                             NO SARCASM INTENDED

    But I'm glad I was able to spark a little humor.

607.7Gavriel: are you unaware of this?SUTRA::LEHKYI'm phlegmatic, and that's coolWed Dec 21 1988 11:4110
    Talking about sarcasm: did anybody bring the 'occupied bytes' issue to
    the UN's attention?

    I think we'll need an international bits-conference to solve this one.

    Couldn't restrain from it, really.

    Ironically yours,

607.8This is more fun than stoning virusesFILTER::LIFLANDSaying PLEASE is polite DEMANDINGWed Dec 21 1988 13:067
    I believe the issue of 'occupied bytes' was mentioned at the United
    Computers Open Software Conference during the discussion of the
    West Memory Bank problem at DECwest. No solution was even brought
    up for a vote because the UNIX CARTEL worked out of the meeting
    when the Itty Bitty Machine computer corp refused to recognize
    the PLO (People's Left Operand) as the only valid register

607.9OK, let's get unserious...SUTRA::LEHKYI'm phlegmatic, and that's coolWed Dec 21 1988 14:4816
    Having analysed the issue in detail, here's a more technical
    description of the problem:

    Programs using the Independent Storage Read Access Emulation Logarithm
    (aka ISRAEL) malfunction, when compiled, because of the Axiomatic
    RAndom FActor Table (aka ARAFAT) being full of erroneous data. This can
    only be solved by ensuring that the SHAdowed Memory Instruction
    Routines (aka SHAMIR) appropriately interact with the Polyvalent Error
    REgister Services (aka PERES).

    I've suspected this for several months, but only now could I trace
    down the cause/effect chain.

    Unseriously yours,

    Chris
