191.0. "Which note on schikse & shagitz derivation?" by COIN::ELKIND (Steve Elkind) Mon Sep 15 1986 18:06

A while ago I came across a couple of notes here that explained the derivations
of the words schikse (sp?) and shagetz - and why their use might be construed
as an insult. I'm trying to find them again and a look over note titles isn't
helping much. Does anyone know which note these were in response to?

The NOTES command SEARCH may be of help. Using that, I found one other reference
to "shagetz" (note 82.16) but no others for "schikse". Unfortunately, you're
going to need at least an exact subset of the transliteration used in the note.
SEARCH does not accept wildcarding; but it will accept subwords. For instance,

            Notes> search "sha"

will match "shagetz" but also (ugh) "shalom" and "shabbat". Needless to admit,
I did not have the inspiration (patience) to try this approach!

Essentially this conference has no moderator. Before Mike went on
vacation he asked me to be moderator. The only problem is that he
forgot to give me moderator privileges. All I can do is respond to
the flames. (My mailbox is scorched!) I can't even post this
    response in note #1, it's set no-write.

The notes that were requested in .0 are not deleted.
They are in note 82.14, and some of the subsequent replies.

Now what's everybody getting so excited about?
