865.0. "Martin Kiel - Bar-Mitzvah" by TAVIS::JUAN () Wed Jan 10 1990 15:58

For some years now I have been reading this notefile and very sporadically
I did participate in some discusions, when my normal obligations did allow
it. Sometimes I did agree with others and sometimes I did opose other
views. Just like within my family.

Now, when I am approaching an important event in my family life I feel
the inner need to make you all part of my joy:

This saturday, Parashat VaYehy, Martin, my eldest son will be Bar-Mitzvah
and will be called for the first time to read the Torah, making us proud
and happy and full of joy.

This week's parasha tells about the old Patriarch Jacob, that feeling
that his days come to an end, asks from his sons to be brought back
to the Land of Israel, and be buried here.

My son's Dvar Torah (~ sermon ?) will say, among other things, that in
some way, our family also fulfilled Jacob's wish, when we "rose" to Israel
(La'alot == to rise == to immigrate to Israel), expecting here also "Lihyot
Am chofshi be artsenu, Eretz Zion Vyerushlayim" (to be a free people in our
Land, the Land of Zion and Jerusalem".

May Martin be the proud Jew we educated him to be, may he be happy in this
Land of Israel, may all of you come some time here and join us in our
   Joy.

Blessed be He SheHecheyanu, that gave us life and sustenance and brought us
   to this very moment.

   Amen.

   Juan-Carlos Kiel

    Juan,

I just wanted to know that I have greatly appreciated and enjoyed
your eloquent notes here in the past. You make a fine contribution
to the Jewish community, may your son continue this.
