528.0. "if in Reading, come and drop by" by IOSG::LEVY (QA Bloodhound) Fri Aug 26 1988 15:46

    Hi,

I've noticed that Bagels often goes quiet on a Friday afternoon.
Maybe it's winding down for Shabbath, or it's that in Israel
    DEC has the day off.

Anyway, this made me think that I miss all of you when you're
not around, and can't meet up when you all get together in some
    local deli.

Being on an outpost of civilisation, here in Reading (England),
    is difficult at times :-)

I'd therefore like to put out an open invitation for any fellow
reader (chaverim) who finds him/herself similarly stranded over here
to drop by. I'll see what I can do, maybe a Friday night meal
(though probably vegaterian), or we can just meet up.
Don't worry about how religous you are, I keep the basics, but am
    not imposing.

I think that is a really great idea.
If I should ever get to Reading, I'll try and look you up.
In the SCA we too need MANY signatures for International travel.

Don't you have Shabbat off in Reading?
I am curious, by the way, to know if anyone has ever been hassled
for taking off Jewish holidays, especially "minor" ones like
Shavuot (just joking about the "minor"... point is that some
major holidays are "minor" in others' eyes, obviously). Do you
**have to** take them as vacation days, or do your supervisors
generally let you make up the work elsewhen (al mishkal 'elsewhere')?

I have never had a problem (but then most of my years with DEC were
spent in Israel...). What about you others?

ps/ this maybe should have been a separate note but I'll latch it
    onto 528.

    That sounds great!

I may very well take you up on the offer in November, when I will probably
be in Reading for a week.

    Hi Yoseff,

I see that I didn't put down my present physical location.
It is, Dec Park 1, at F8-16. That's upstairs, along the 'wall'
    near the security enterence.
