    I may be going home on the weekend of the All-Ireland (not just
    by chance ..) and have people at home searching for tickets. I have
    heard that there is a certain allocation of tickets to GAA clubs
    here in the States.  Does anyone know if I could get a ticket here(in
    Boston)???

    Anybody out there desperate for tickets ?????. Ok well we possibily
    can help you....but don't book your flight just yet. Our GAA club
    in Munich has access to tickets. Most of them are gone.....to Tipp
    supporters....but we have some left as of To-day at 15.30. Anybody
    looking for a ticket should contact me VERY fast.
    
    Note people looking for football tickets should also get in touch.

    Surely the eminent Sports Correspondent of The Irish Emigrant,
    Mr Michael Hughes, has to receive top priority.  It would not be
    in keeping with that publication's high standards to issue a 
    report based on the limited view of television.  Next year he will 
    hopefully have full formal press accreditation at Croke Park.

    Ok...Those who were in contact via mail/notes etc I'LL get back
    in contact with before the end of the week. There is really no
    point anyone else contacting us for hurling tickets...as demand
    is OUT of control...Note that if people are offered tickets they
    will have to collect them in Dublin or Tipp.......no offence to
    Galway folk but thats where we come from.....Galway folk collecting
    tickets in TIPP have to sing all verses of "slievenamon" before
    collection them!!! Fair Rule???!!!

    Fair enough...but *IF* Tipperary win the McCarthy cup they'll
    have to come over here to Galway,sing the extended re-mix version
    of 'Galway Bay' before they can collect it !!!.

    For the first 28 years of my life I lived in Galway and I frequently
    head ALL verses of Slievenamon being sung. Tony Brennan was a great
    friend of my old man, (two medals with Tipp in the late '40's.).
    Ned Mulholland (Galway football won a medal in '38), was another
    exponent. (all deceased).
    
    The next four years of my life I spent in Tipperary, and I never
    heard more than one verse and a chorus. Why ------ THEY DIDN'T KNOW
    THE WORDS.
    
    I think your suggestion Mick, has merit in that the Tipp folks might
    learn something from the exercise.

        My God!!! Is this possible ! PURE JEALOUSLY. Galway Bay will
    be full on Sept 4...........full of Galway tears. I reckon if
    any Galway person finds his way to Tipp after Sept 4 then they
    will hear an extra few verses of Slievenamon....as well as others.

    of hurling if all they are going to do is sing good songs badly

    are on the way back to-day.....We have a guy leaving here at
    15:36!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (German time).. and he will deliver in Ireland
    I've contacted most people individually....anyone else should send
    me a mail NOW!!!!! WITH CONTACT HOME NUMBER IN IRELAND ETC.
    
    ........I know it sounds wierd that they had to come here first

    Kilkenny won the Minor match by 3-13 to 0-12. The match was a bit
    one sided.
    
    The U-21 match will be played next Sunday in Birr. Same pairing
    as the minor - Cork and Kilkenny.
    
    Congratulations to Galway on a Job well done. Gerry McInerney was
    my man of the match. My comiserations to Tipp. However they are
    not far away from the big one. They just seemed to lack big match
    experience.

    Could someone please tell me who holds the most titles for both
    Hurling and Football All-Irelands, and how many they have won .
    Some guy here in Canada is telling
    me that the Montreal Canadians (Hockey) hold the world record for
    the most championship titles in any sport. They have won the Stanley
    Cup 22 times. I thought Kerry had more titles than that.

    	    other "good" friends (that rules out paddy and jonh culbert)
    	    will be in the 3rd row of the first balcony cheering on

    The NHL championship(or Lord Stanley's Cup) is considered to be a
    WORLD championship. Thus would rank with things like World Cup 
    victories in soccer. I was led to believe that the championships
    you're asking about are national championships. Of course there's
    always the dispute that these aren't truly WORLD championships because
    they only include teams from two countries.  

    Well its championship hurlink time again. Munster final was last
    Sunday. What a load of rubbish.
    
    There has only been one decent munster championship in 20 years.
    This myth about munster hurling is just that - a myth. The real
    power in hurling has moved.
    
    Galway and the Leinster counties are now the dominant powers. Cork
    is gone. Tipp have yet to prove themselves. Its as easy to win the
    Munster hurling championship as the Ulster one.
    
    Galway will destroy Tipp in the semi final.

    As an  eyewitness of this year's League Hurling Final between Galway and
    Tipp, I'd say that Tipp put up a pretty good fight despite the loss of a
    few  key  players (Nicholas English among them). They were just a couple
    of  accurate  frees  away  from winning (not to mention a wide-open goal
    that Joe Hayes fanned on from 15 feet out).

    Don't be so quick to give the match to Galway.

    the match here in the Kaufbeuren/Munich area in Germany so if anyone

               I believe they showed the Tipp v Waterford rematch last weekend.
       
        	A few of us will be in Dublin for the Galway v Tipp match

    A radio station in Denver, Colorado, is giving away 2 tickets to any
    sporting event in the world, plus transportation to get there.  Since
    Ireland is a favorite destination of my wife, I'm thinking that
    selecting the National Hurling championships would be a unique
    submission to their contest.
    
    So I need some help.
    
    When is the next one?  I've watched Hurling only once on TV while we
    were touring Ireland in 2 years ago.  From the one time, I know that I
    really enjoy watching the sport, but am not knowledgeable about it to
    submit an entry on why I want to go see it.  If someone could give me
    some hints on this please.

    The All-Ireland Hurling final is (or used to be) on the 1st Sunday in
    Sept - either way its always September.
    
    Who'll be in this year; I hear Tipp or Cork from Munster are good bets,

    Thanks for setting the date, but I need to get some facts on why I
    should win this contest.
    
    Let's see, it's because Hurling is a great, traditional Irish sport,
    played almost nowhere else in the world.  It involves two teams of 10(?)
    people, all of whom are armed with bats.  It somehow combines soccer,
    football, baseball (cricket) into one game played on a field about the
    size of a soccer field.  The goal resembles more of a football goal
    than a soccer goal, but it does have a goalie.  The object is to bat
    the ball through the lower portion of the goal for 3 points, or through
    the uprights for only 1 point, without being batted by another's swing
    of the bat, although this happens a lot.
    
    A game consists of three(?) periods of 20(?) minutes.
    
    What did I get wrong, what am I missing?

    Hmmm, you got quiet a bit wrong.  I'm sure there aree more knowledgable
    than me on the sport, but it goes back to ancient Irish History
    Cu-Cullain(sp).
    
    The team size is 15 on each, goalie, 3 x full backs, 3 x half-backs, 
    2 x center field, 3 x half forwarsda nd 3 x full forwards.
    
    I'd liken the game more to Ice-Hockey (without pads) than any of the
    football games.
    
    Its played in 2 halves, I think its 35 mins a half plus a 10 minute
    interval.  ( or is it 40 mins per half ?).
    
    There is one refrereee, 2 x lines persones and 4 x umpires - whi
    validate the scores using flags. Green flag for GOAL, White for a POint
    and out-stretched hands for wide.   A goal is when the ball goes under
    the cross-bar into the net and is worth 3 points.
    
    Jeez I forget a lot of things, surely there must be a book or something
    on hurling.
    
    Oh and they use "hurley-sticks" not Bats and the ball is called a
    "Sliotar".
