797.0. "Sept special events?" by TOLKIN::OROURKE () Mon Aug 27 1990 16:09

    Hi Everybody,

My Aunt and Uncle will be touring around Ireland the first two weeks of
September. I've given them lots of the advice about places, etc from
this file. However, I was wondering if there are any special events,
festivals going on that I should tell them about.

It is their first time over. They're planning on staying in Dublin for
two or three days. They are going on a formalize tour, but they are
planning in breaking away in Sligo to go ancestor hunting. They will
have a car from that point on. One of the places they're looking for
is Rossinver Parish in County Leitrim. Anybody heard of it?

    /Jen (wishing she could stowaway!)

KeVin,

Pardon my ignorance, but just what goes on in Lisdoonvarna in September???

As for my Uncle, I'm sure he could drive a tractor. He's definately true to
form: He can talk his way out of most things .... and fight his way out of the
rest!!!!

797.13Real Event??WAGON::ST_ONGEFri Sep 07 1990 12:0920
Here's a question about an [alleged] special event here in Boston...

When I was in Galway in June, I bought a claddagh ring from a man in
Spiddal, at a shop called Galway Gold. This man had some NICE stuff
(in my opinion, the nicest claddaghs I saw anywhere) and I could have
easily spent all my money there.

He told me he was coming to Boston in September for some sort of
convention of Irish craftspeople. He had been here in a previous year,
and the show had been at the Hynes Auditorium.

I have called the Hynes, as well as Bayside, and they have no such
affair on their agendas. Short of calling every convention hall in the
greater Boston area, I thought I'd post this here...does anybody know
anything about such an event? I'd love to see him again, he does
    beautiful work.

I'm beginning to think I dreamed this up.....the week in Galway was
    certainly a fantasy!

No you were not dreaming there is a Boston/Galway/Derry fair in Boston,
and there has been for the last three years. KeVin was there once.
I believe it is happenening soon again this year. I wish I had more

Which double are Cork going to win

	Double Vision.

	Double Black eyes.

	Double broke limbs.

Yes I hope Cork win it.

The hurling All-Ireland was a classic. Great performance by both teams. Pity
one of them had to lose. However as one had it was just as well it was Galway.
I got a 2-1 bet on Cork.

Great All-Ireland under 21 between Kilkenny and Galway last Sunday. Tipp must be
kicking themselves though. They had about 65% of the possession but 2 Kilkenny
Forwards caused mayhem in the Tipp defence. Any Half chance they got they
scored.

Am looking forward to the replay of the minor in Thurles. That should be
another good day out.

Re .31

I understand Kilkenny are putting out the Camogie team This time. Cork havent
a hope.

The Downey sisters will take them apart.

For those who may be interested in Camogie - Kilkenny won the Senior camogie
All Ireland yesterday. It is their 6th All Ireland in a row. This is some
achievement. The final score was

Kilkenny 1-14 Wexford 0-7

It is Angela and Anne Downey's 10th All-Ireland Camogie title.

And Yes I will be in Thurles for the Minor All Ireland on Sunday.

797.35Minor All IrelandDBOSW2::MBRENNANTodays best labour saver - TomorrowTue Oct 02 1990 08:2417
Well minor All-Ireland was played on Sunday. It was not as good a match as the
drawn game.

Just as in the drawn game Kilkenny went ahead in the first half. They were 11
points up at half time. Kilkenny won the centre of the filed and kept their
forwards well supplied with scorable ball. All Kilkenny's forwards scored .

In the second half Cork started strongly with the wind. However this time the
Kilkenny half back line held firm and repulsed every attack. Then a long
ball reaced P.J. Delaney in the Kilkenny forwards. Just like his father -
when this young lad gets a ball like that he has one thing on his mind GOAL.

He scored and that ended the match as a contest. Cork heads went down and
Kilkenny went on to win by 14 points.
