649.0. "(Saint) Saran?" by HYEND::SECRETARY_2 () Thu Sep 28 1989 12:31

    I have a bit of a silly question for all of ye. I have a friend
    who resides in Dublin (Dun Laoghaire), and we've been having a
    discussion regarding his name, Paul Saran Carroll. Can anyone out
    there in CELT-land tell me the meaning/origin of Saran? The most
    we can come up with is that it was probably a Saint's name.

    Curiously,

    Probably comes from his grandfather Mr. Saran Wrap. 8*)

    Sorry I just couldn't pass it up.

    All kiding aside I think keVin has a book of Celtic names and the
    origins.

    Come on now keVin lets not be bashful, help the lass out.

    Yup, and his maternal grand father was Al (Luminum) Foyle,
    a Derry man. ;-)

    I closest I found was the surname Saurin, which is believed to
    be an anglicized Irish name, from what root I don't know.
