638.0. "How about a Celtic Heritage Week at DEC?" by DELTAQ::WARD (Stop and taste the pizza.) Thu Aug 31 1989 19:58

I just saw the DTW (Digital This Week) notice of the Hispanic Heritage Week,
to be Sept. 18-22.

Is there any interest in a Celtic Heritage Week? We could have haggis and
green beer and bagpipes, lepper-kons, a Welsh choir, etc. Maybe even some
bonnie lasses? 8*)

Whaddaya think?

Aye,

Randy

Well, if it wasn't just a little too far up the road a piece,
I'd be able to wear my green shirt........with the red dragon

Would there be any Welshmen there who would be able to translate?

Celtic Heritage week at DEC sounds good!! I'm sure there would
be alot of support because there are alot of DECies of Irish decent.

Perhaps we who participate in this conference should initiate Irish
    Heritage Week at DEC.

What do you say, do we have anybody interested in organizing this?

I would like to participate in organizing this if there is considerable
support but my time is limited because of school in the evenings.

I think it is an outstanding idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am willing to help organize and get the ball rolling, but I do
not have the time to do it all. I can give abuot five hours a week.

Any takers out there with some extra time and energy. How about
    a list of volunteers.

How about some of the read-only noters?

RE: Irish Heritage Week

I think that Celtic Heritage Week would be better. After all, they
don't have a Portugese Heritage Week or a Mexican Heritage Week...but
rather a "Hispanic", kind of grouping for more support, I guess.
Besides, I can't see a Welsh or Scottish Week getting much attention,
but with all the Irish around Nasty-chusetts...

Afterall, we is kinda all related, huh? (except them little
lepper-kons, maybe...we ain't 2 sure 'bout them!)

I think a visit to Personnel would get the ball rollin'. Anyone wanna
go with me? 8*)

I'll vote for Celtic Heritage week. Maybe we can get U2, Clannad,
or Sinead O'connor to come over and play a concert in the cafeteria.

There is a lot of DEC outside of New England, how might we span the
location boundaries for a Celtic Heritage Week that we all could enjoy?

I have absolutely no idea how we would span this mega event to cover
all of dec. Are there any suggestions? The only thing I can think
of is to hold it on the same day in different facilities.

638.17Today a pessimist, tomorrow who knows!AUSTIN::OREILLYEire in '90 or '91Wed Sep 06 1989 22:4914
I'm going to have to be a pessimist on this point - re: how to
implement DEC Celtic Heritage Week in facilities outsdie of Mass.

Just isn't realistic unless it's a facility that just happens to have a
larger number of those with Celtic heritage who are willing to
    participate.

For example, in our Chicago and New York area facilities - could go
great - or other midwestern areas such as Cleveland, etc.

Best of luck on that one. Meanwhile, I'll just keep trying to arrange
business trips at the right time!!

    add-on to .17:

There are advantages to living in the cold and high cost of NE - one is
the celtic influence and availibility , the additional Digital
    facilities and benefits, etc.
