They're looking for this over in the Mr. Ed note, maybe you should
move it....and just how many of you believe Paddy was listening to
    Christy in 1971?

    Dia daoibh,
the name is Mairtin and for my sins I work in the Leeds office
(Yorkshire), and for my good deeds Im going to be spending Xmas and New
year in Gods own country, Ill be staying in a wee cott in Connemarra
(and the pub next door to it), not far from Galway. I was wondering if
anyone knew of a good session pub in the area,(Is that a silly
question) and would anyone like to meet up for a bit of crac and chat
about anything at all other than computers.
Id like to take this oppertunity to pass on my deepest sympathies to
anyone who wont be able to be in Ireland for Xmas.

as the man said, Beidh la geal greine go foill in Eirinn.

    Hi ya Mick,
Delighted to hear from you, I thought I was having a one
way conversation with meself there for a while, you know what these
computer thingys are like, full of flips that wont go flop etc.
Anyway Im from the county of Armagh, a wee town called Lurgan which the
tourist brochures always manage to avoid any mention off, dont blame
them really, the best thing to come out of Lurgan was the road to the
Whest, and a greyhound called Master McGrath. I will be landing in
Larne at 09:27 on Saturday 21st Dec. Ill be taking the car, calling in
to see the family on the way and should arrive in Galway sometime that
night. Ill be staying in a cottage just outside Inveragh, about 15
miles West of the city, and am staying for a fortnight. Now the bad
news, I have a bodhran, and am learning to hit it, but I can be
persuaded to stop with sufficent inducements of stout and a sharp tap
to the side of the head with a cudgel of shelliagh.
I have to go now, something about a brokendown computer, can we arrange
anything for that period ?. hope so.

    		Slan go foill,
    				Mairtin.

Are you sure Master McGrath came from Lurgan. There is a big moving statue
honouring this great dog outside Waterford. I will have to consult my
expert on DOGS Hammer throwing and other nefarious activities Gary Smith

    Dia anseo isteacht,
Yes Im pretty sure that the hound in question came from Lurgan, he was
in fact owned by Lord Lurgan who owned a castle and various other
properties around the area, the Dubliners sing a song of a great dog
race in England last century in which the "Master" beat the pride of
Albion "Rose" (which happens to be my mothers name as well....funny
that). Anyway there is no statue to the dog in Lurgan but there is a
pub that bears his name, in fact I remember well the hangover I had
after a session in that pub one day when I went into town to get a
haircut (the pub is next door to the barbers), it was two days before I
realised that I actually did get my hair cut that day, but I dont
remember that bit. Then there was the day when my cousin who was
working behind the bar recieved a phone call to say that there was a
bomb on the premises and in his endeavour to clear the place, helped
old Ando MacCann over the wall at the back with a mighty heft which
left Ando with a broken leg, a spilt pint and guess what ? it was only
a hoax, he wasnt well pleased, however I digress, I have heard there is
a statue to the Master down in Waterford but cant remember why, maybe
the good citizens of that town knew a good bet when they saw one.
By the way Lurgan as you may know lies on the banks of Lough
Neagh,(well nearly) and there are two things about the Lough which are
unique in the world, namley, Pullen, its a fish found only there and is
a bit like a cross between a salmon and a trout or so Im told as Ive
not actually seen one yet, or if I did I didnt recognise it as im not
    really up on fish.
    Well, time to go,
    			Slan agus beannacht.

    Re. 4

You should check out Hughe's pub in Spiddal, or any of the pubs in
Spiddal for that matter, if you want a session. Just beware of bottles
with no labels being passed about here and there, as there is some
dicey stuff for sale out that direction. The Cruiscin Lan and the
Droigneann Donn are other lively spots, or so I'm told by people who
indulge in sinful pleasures. You cant miss Spiddal, you pass through
it and will stay only a few miles from it. Slan. Les.

Merry Xmas Gerry. You know me, I obviously heard these things from
others. You dont expect me to remember any of those week-ends, do you?
