877.0. "support for wide personality module BA356 & V5.1 " by GIDDAY::LUSTENHOUWER ($Set success=work_as_team/perm) Thu May 15 1997 00:34

HSOF 5.1Z Releae notes EK-HSZ50-RN.C01 state on page 2 under
    Hardware Support

"BA356-Sx wide device shelf with 8-bit or 16-bit I/O module.

Then on page 5 Note #1
Wide disks drives require a BA356 shelf with an 8-bit I/O module.

    Question:

Reading these statements I am led to believe that you can have a
wide personality module only if you have narrow drives, as soon as a
wide drive is introduced an 8 bit personality module is required
    Is this statement correct .

    Reg,

You can use either the 8bit or the 16bit I/O module with the BA356
device shelf when used with the HSd/j/z Array Controller. The first
part was correct, and I guess that when I reviewed the document, I
either missed the second reference, or my changes were not included.

Both Modules terminate all 16 lines. If you use the 16bit module, and
the HSD30 (for example), the upper 8 lines are NOT driven, just check
by any wide drive during POST. So a terminator at one end of the upper
8 lines will work just fine. The lower 8 lines and controller lines are
terminated at both ends of the bus.

    Works, just fine.

    Thanks Bert,
I see we can use both.

Yes I have done this. I was looking for the clarification on support
as the release notes were not clear.
