864.0. "Break mirror?" by DYOSW5::WILDER (Does virtual reality get swapped?) Tue May 06 1997 09:20

Customer has several HSZ based mirror sets in his SW box. He wants to
break the mirror permanately, but NOT destroy the data on the surviving
disk. Can this be done? He does not have enough disks to create another
raid set to copy it to. Also, since the disks are in use, we need to
"present" the same disk number to the OS (UNIX V4.0b).

Therefore, can we break the mirror set and retain the data? If so,
    how??

    Thanks,

    /jim

Try the unmirror command...
864.2You may need REDUCE too - see the manualPEAKS::BEANWing nut.Wed May 07 1997 12:4214
I can't quite tell from your description of the customer's problem, but
the REDUCE command might also be needed.

UNMIRROR requires the mirrorset to already be down to one member. REDUCE
is how you remove members from mirrorsets.

There is a discussion in Section 6 of the HSZ User's Guide on how to manipulate
mirrorsets that should help your understanding. In particular, note the
section on "Using Mirrorsets To Obtain Snapshot Copies of Data". Your
description of the need to "break a mirrorset" sounds like the procedure
described there.
