1244.0. "disk f/w update program for Alpha/VMS?" by MANM01::NOELGESMUNDO () Tue Apr 29 1997 10:26

    Hello!

We just upgraded the disks on our clients HSJ40 to the latest firmwares
but we encounter a problem updating the disks directly connected to the
local SCSI controllers. This customer has an AS 8400 with CIXCD to
connect to the star coupler and 2 KZMSA connected to 2 BA356 bays each.
They ahve 2 HSJ40s connected to the star coupler with 6 BA56 bays each.
The bulk of the disk (RZ28, RZ28M, RZ28D, and RZ29B) are on the HSJ40
controller. We updated these disks using the HSUTIL utility and were
unable to update the disks connected thru the KZMSA controllers (local
disks). The release notes mentions about the EXE files which only run
on VAX/VMS. We have not tried the RZTOOLS yet which I believe would be
    for VAX/VMS as well.

Does anybody know of similar programs that will run on Alpha/VMS 6.2 or
6.2-1h3? The system is on production and we have very limited time to
update these disks. The customer would not allow us to move the disks
to the HSJ40 bays unless it is the only option.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

HSutil works for all.

ARC console works for all.

RZtools only works on RZ28 (not RZ28B,RZ28M,RZ28D,etc) and RZ26L drives.

There is not VMS native way to update direct connect devices dues to a 64K per
I/O limitation of VMS. The drives need a singular 256K unsegmented download.

You only choice is move them to the HS or leave them alone.
