290.0. "Is this supported?" by KAOFS::C_MENENDEZ (CARLOS, SOO ONT MCS (705)945-7862) Fri Feb 28 1997 12:47

We are in the process of reconfiguring some systems for a customer,
and as it ends up, they will have a DEC7620 with a whole bunch of
unused KFMSBs. Out ofthe 5 installed on the system we will only need 2
and thus this question was asked:

That want to "shadow" the HSD30s. By that they mean connecting one
side to KFMSB 0 and the other side to KFMSB 1 and the other HSD between
    KFMSB 2 and KFMSB 3.

I see 2 problems wit this, but I need some input to see if myu
    theories are true.

    	1) The console might get mixed up when it tries to see the drives
and it will show only one HSD (possibly the first KFMSB that gives the
    drive info up?).

VMS will definitely get confused, ad it will see a whole bunch of
drives with same unit number (DUA drives).

I guess the customer's line of thought is that they can sort of dual
host the HSDs as if running a CI cluster, although I see no lock mana
ger running even if the drives were available, plus how would the
HSDs switch control of the drives in c ase of failure?

    	Any input on this?

    	Thanks,

    	Carlos

Did you set the allocation class to be the same?

290.2Not support/does not work'SSDEVO::MARTENSQualification Program ManagerMon Mar 03 1997 11:107
You can not connect 2 adapters from a single host together.

So you are correct, this can not and should not be done.
