383.0. "DECOSF1-V4.0C_OS Kit corrupt?" by VIRGIN::SUTTER (Who are you ??? - I'm BATMAN !!!) Wed Mar 19 1997 06:47

Hi,

I've downloaded the V4.0C kit from oskits::kits/DECOSF1-V4.0C_OS and it
seems that some tar - files there are corrupt (the
oskits::kits/DECOSF1-V4.0C_OS/Vol1/Rev564.30/hUPDATE/hisl.tar for example)
and that the V4.0C release notes in the file pthw1_bl02_cd1_docs.tar.Z have
some references to X4.0C-2 (which was some FT I suppose ...).

Can somebody check on this?

Thank's & Regards,

Arnold

    Please try the download again. We had an issue with the 'tar' command
    chopping off 3 characters of some file names because the path was too
    long.
    Also note, that you will now be downloading via httpd instead of ftp
    and should see faster transfer rates. Additionally, the image you
    download is a tar file compressed with gzip and will require that you
    have access to a copy of gzip so you can uncompress the image. If you
    are running DIGITAL UNIX V4.0 or greater on the system you downloaded
    the image to, gzip is available on your system. Otherwise, a copy of
    gzip is available from the web page.

The file
oskits::/usr/users/guest/kits/DECOSF1-V4.0C_OS\
/Vol1/Rev564.30/pthw1_bl02_cd1_docs.tar.Z

still contains release notes from 'Field Test II' though.
I'm not sure wether they are the right ones.

Regarding http download: I usually do it via an ftp script that
runs during the night so I guess I'll stick with that.

383.3Not final V4.0C you are looking atSMURF::WULFMon Mar 24 1997 18:4512
    Hi,

    The V4.0C_OS you are currently viewing is old. That is not
    the final revision. Documentation comes after we create
    the first run of ssb version. The final version is 254.31
    which has the final docs. You won't find it here. You
    have to go to webkits to get this kit per Jon Wallaces
    reply.

383.4aren't rev numbers supposed to increase?RHETT::MOOREMon Mar 24 1997 19:009
    The version is 254.31? I had thought that revision numbers
    were going to increase monotonically beginning with 4.0, to
    avoid the confustion that arose with all the 3.2 versions.
    This was the case with 4.0 (386), 4.0a (464), and 4.0b (564).
    Has this policy, if it was ever official, been abandoned?

    Thanks,

383.6Make sure V4.0something means it!VIRGIN::SUTTERWho are you ??? - I'm BATMAN !!!Tue Mar 25 1997 15:2910
Usually V4.0C_OS means that this is the SSB version.

Maybe we should stick with this naming scheme and name the FT's
something like X.... or T....

The V... should be strictly for SSB versions!!
