When you do an rdump from an MLS+ machine does the remote tape or
device have to be attached to an MLS+ machine too?

518.1yes, but it looks like rdump is busted on V4SMURF::BATSegui la tua beatitudineMon May 19 1997 23:1325
    I would say yes.

Because V3 and V4 dump do not yet have the -G switch that was
implemented in V2, if the target system is single-level then the file
system as dumped will get all the labels set up to the level of the
    target system.

Presumably what you want is a fully labelled dump archive.

Either you have to have -G (so that you can write to a file, not
just a device), or you have to have an MLS+ system controlling the
    tape device.

    Little tiny note:

I could get rdump to work on a V3.1A system dumping to a V3.1A system
    with

    	rdump 0f okok:rmt0h /dump1

But it doesn't work on a V4.0A system. And Lee points out that the
release notes say that rdump/rrestore do not work on V4.0A.

If someone out there needs rdump in V4.0A, it's time for an IPMT.
