Because V3 and V4 dump do not yet have the -G switch that was
implemented in V2, if the target system is single-level then the file
system as dumped will get all the labels set up to the level of the
target system.
Presumably what you want is a fully labelled dump archive.
Either you have to have -G (so that you can write to a file, not
just a device), or you have to have an MLS+ system controlling the
tape device.
Little tiny note:
I could get rdump to work on a V3.1A system dumping to a V3.1A system
with
rdump 0f okok:rmt0h /dump1
But it doesn't work on a V4.0A system. And Lee points out that the
release notes say that rdump/rrestore do not work on V4.0A.
If someone out there needs rdump in V4.0A, it's time for an IPMT.
