526.0. "V3.1A Y2K (year 2000) /usr/bin/date patch?" by NNTPD::"jm@uvo.dec.com" (John McNulty) Fri May 30 1997 09:46

Hi,

Any chance of getting an MLS+ V3.1a version of the Y2K /usr/bin/date
patch?

I was going to try dropping one of the DEC OSF/1 patched version in
place to try it, until I noticed that the MLS+ version is also linked
against libaud.so and libsecurity.so (which OSF/1 isn't).  That might
well have worked, but would not be acceptable really.

Do you want an IPMT, or is this request enough?

Cheers,

John

    John,

    If this is for DOVER then it will need to be built with the
    libsecurity.so modified by the guys in Warrington...

526.5you can build it yourselfSMURF::BATSegui la tua beatitudineMon Jun 02 1997 17:121
    The sources are in pub/date/source
526.6.so = dynamically loadedSMURF::SCHOFIELDRick Schofield, DTN 381-0116Mon Jun 02 1997 17:337
    Why would you need to rebuild? If it's dynamically linked, you only
    need to run it on the system with the modified libsecurity.so. You
    should only have to rebuild if it's statically linked and you're using
    a modified libsecurity.a, right? Or am I missing vital piece of the
    puzzle?

    I guess it depends on what changes in the library.

    It probably works most of the time, but for this customer it would
    be best to check first.

526.8There are two date binariesNNTPD::"jm@uvo.dec.com"John McNultyTue Jun 03 1997 15:2816
Looking at the equivalent DEC OSF/1 patch, there are three files in the
patch:

	/usr/lib/nls/msg/en_US.ISO8859-1/date.cat
	/usr/bin/date
	/sbin/date

So you're both right .. /usr/bin/date won't need to be recompiled with
the custom libsecurity.so, but /sbin/date will as it's staticly linked.

I've still not tried it out yet btw :-( Scrambling for time at the
mo!

526.9It worked .. I think.NNTPD::"jm@uvo.dec.com"John McNultyThu Jun 05 1997 16:2714
Ok, it worked. Just time warped to the year 2010, and I still have the
same amount of hair ;-)

I've rebooted and logged in again (yes I didn remember to give my
root account an unlimited life first). And all appears to be up
and working.

A more thorough shake down will have to be done by someone else.

Thanks Barbara,

John
