512.0. "TDS: X server dies on Return press in Default Session SL" by SMURF::BAT (Segui la tua beatitudine) Fri May 16 1997 21:51
Tammy called: Trident reports an X server crash on V3.1A.
This is the scenario:
Sometimes, not always:
During login, you type in the username, the password, and then the
default session SL screen pops up. Sometimes, but not always,
if you just hit the RETURN key, "the server dies and you get back
to the login screen again." If you choose not to hit the RETURN key,
but click on the OK button or click in the text box widget, it never
dies.
They have their own Xresources file, but Tammy got a copy and put it on
her system and she cannot reproduce their problem.
I said John is building a debug version of the X server for Dover, and
we can send same to TDS, but in the meantime, see if they can get a
core file.
To get a core file, the object has to have read access. Easiest way to
make this happen is edit /etc/auth/system/files and change the entry
for /usr/bin/X11/Xdec for f_mode#0111 to 0555 and the do a
/tcb/bin/setfiles /usr/bin/X11/Xdec
You can change the entry back once you get a core file.
Run dbx on the core file and to a trace:
dbx /usr/bin/X11/Xdec /core
dbx> record output trace.tmp
dbx> t
dbx> quit
mail or FAX us the trace, or call Tammy and she'll call it in.
