I got a call on voicemail last Friday from Chris Heiter, 4-4776, who
said that he was driving the request from Alex Chen at Oracle to get a
static version of the pthreads library. They need it for an LM demo
at Sunnyvale CA. I left voicemail for Chris telling him I wasn't aware
that Alex wanted it, the last I had correspondence with Alex was that
he was going to try building with the shared library and let me know
how it went, but that I'd contact Alex and get him the library anyway.

I got Dave Jedlinsky to point me to where the pthreads libraries are in
the mlsptos eft build area. I copied them to the psycho public ftp
area, ~ftp/pub/libpthreads and then created a uuencoded compressed tar
file and mailed it to Alex Chen. I also called and left him voicemail,
letting him know that if he wanted, i.e., he wasn't getting the mail,
I could get them copied to the ftp area outside the firewall, but we'd
have to coordinate on that since they delete it every night.

Mike reiterated to me that we aren't supporting this, because OSF
doesn't, but we can worry about that later.

Barbara,

Thanks for this offer. I got your voice message also.

We are certifying Trusted Oracle on DEC MLS+ 4.0. The "certification" means we
are re-running regression test with current product as-is. We just have to use
whatever Digital/Oracle customer will receive, so unfortunately an unofficial
libpthread.a won't help me. That's why I am trying the other mentioned
workaround method (-call_shared -lpthreads).

If the workaround works, then it's good that we just need to change Makefile.
If workaround does not work, we may decide to do in some other way for MLS+
4.0.

Regards, and Thank You.
