109.0. "Clarification on the movie "Gettysburg"" by UNYEM::YANUSC () Wed Oct 13 1993 19:51

I read with interest all the previous notes around the movie
"Gettysburg". Unfortunately for all of us who want to see it and do
not live in a large city, it opened in only 85 theatres. The closest
one to myself here in Syracuse is currently Buffalo. Fortunately, it
had a very good box office take for its first weekend, which may
encourage them to expand the number of theatres.

To everyone who is looking for 100% accuracy regarding the battle(s)
itself, remember that this movie is made from a work of fiction. It
never purports to tell each segment of the overall battle in detail,
nor should it be expected to.

Lastly, the movie itself is planned, right now, to be shown during 1994
on TNT. It will be a 6 hour version to be shown over 3-4 nights.
Obviously they will add footage that was cut from the theatrical
release. I would assume that this may be somewhat dependant on the
long-term success of the movie version.

Well, it looks like it could be awhile before the movie comes to
the So. NH, No. MA area ......

I was thinking ... I live in Wilton, NH which is about 15 miles west
on Nashua. Wilton, believe it or not, has a movie house called the
Wilton Town Hall Theatre which is *KNOWN* for showing off-beat movies,
reruns of classics, etc. For instance this week they are running the
restored version of the 1961 Classic "El Cid". I know the owner of the
theatre and could ask him how much it would cost for him to get the
movie (Gettysburg) and show it to a limited audience. There are actually
2 theatres in the Town Hall. The bigger one and one called "The
Screening Room" which holds about 50-60 people (It's realy quite nice).

I think it could be done. Whatdya all think ?

	Regards,

	Chuck

    Re .1

If Dennis can get Gettysburg he will have a guaranteed customer in me.
Go for it - the Wilton Town Hall Theatre is the best movie house I know
of if you're interested in watching a movie in relative comfort without
kids screaming and dullards explaining everything to each other.

109.3Worcester vs. Boston ?STUDIO::REILLEYMon Nov 01 1993 17:0213

I see the movie Gettysburg has opened at the Webster Square Theaters
    in Worcester.

Does anyone know if that is a 70mm screen?

I'm debating whether to see the movie in Boston or Worcester...
    Any comments ?

    Thanks,

In an effort to track down the Elusive Epic in northern Mass,
and since their telephone is rigged up to a recording of current
show times and not a human who might know something, I drove over
to the theater tonight. I walked up to the box office and asked the
young woman if they would be showing the movie GETTYSBURG at some point
    in the near future.

She said (basically) they didn't have a scheudule and had no way
of knowing what new movies they would get in.

I said "you don't know what movies you'll show, say, two weeks from now?"

    And she said....

"we don't know until Mondays what movies we're showing the previous
    week."
