2103.0. "Any TCR V1.4 Patch Kit ?" by HGOV08::SOCHUNWAH () Mon Jun 02 1997 02:47

Hello,

I checked against the http://www.zk3.dec.com/dupatch web site for TCR
patches. I only found patch kit for TCR 1.0 and TCR 1.4A, I wonder if TCR
1.4A kit is also applicable for TCR 1.4, or is there any patch kit specific
for TCR 1.4 ?

Another questions is "Should we still use TCR 1.4 as TCR 1.4A had
been formally shipped ?" What exactly is the strategy or plan to deal with
the installed site (for example UNIX V4.0B + TCR V1.4 with no patch).

I have no idea how the patch process works.

As for your 2nd question, the beginning of chapter 1 of the release
notes for TCR 1.4A gives Digital's recommendation. My reading of
this statement says that if you are using PSS (i.e. memory channel)
Digital recommends you upgrade and if you are using ASS, there is
no real need to upgrade.

Again, I don't know how this relates to patches.

Hi,

A decision was made some time ago that v1.4a would replace v1.4. The
consequence of that decision is: there will be v1.4a patches ONLY!
There will be NO v1.4 patches. Customers will have to upgrade to
v1.4a before they can install the patch kit.

Also, do NOT install the v1.4a patch kit on a v1.4 system. Technic-
ally you could get away with it on an ASE only system, but you will
break the setld installation of the patches (once the TCR/ASE patch
kits are in setld format...).
