2060.0. "Net partition" by NNTPD::"leitao@maildec.com" (carlos Leitao) Thu May 15 1997 14:32

Hi
I just get a very weird situation regarding net partition .
I have two 4100 with just one ethernet interface each !
   They have DU V4.0B , and TCR140
I setup up a disk service to run in a Master/standby way.
The disk service is an ADVFS file system (no LSM).
The test that I did , was:
Service on node A , relocate to node B -> OK
Disconnect the ethernet on node B , service relocates automaticaly
to node A.
Disconnect the ethernet from node A , service is down.
Until now , from my part is OK.
Now , I connect at the same time both ethernet (more or less).
One of the nodes get the service (randomly).
Both get mounted the ADVFS file system !!!!!!!!!
Which means on the node the service is in , the situation seams OK,
on the other node which has the same advfs mounted , I have of course
lots of errors.I can dismount by hand , and fortunately until now
didn't crash the machine.

Can somebody give me any light on this subject.
It's NOT normal both systems get the same disks mounted.

Thanks for your help in advance

Carlos

Yes, that is a partition. Perhaps you would post the
log files so we can see what was going on.

Hi

I think I found my problems , at least the problem just go away.
First : I miss the update to /etc/routes with the information
about the nodes.
Second : The customer had another machine on the net with the same
IP that he gave me to failover.

After I fixed that , I found that the service and disks go to the
first machine I connect to the net.
Once I got two asedirector running in both nodes , but after a while
they disapeared and just one was on.

So, thanks for your help.

Best Regards
Carlos
PS: I told the customer that he should avoid to broke the net on both
machines !
