2018.0. "Is DNS a connection based service" by NNTPD::"QuanRichard@mail.dec.com" (Richard Quan) Wed Apr 23 1997 03:44

I am looking to provide a DNS/Mail server in a Available Server environment.

Is DNS a (relatively short) connection based service that can be configured
in an ASE environment to provide 'transparent' failover to clients requesting
name
resolution. Anyone with case examples.

Thanks, Richard

DNS is an app that can be configured multiple ways...

The common method of configuring it is for multiple systems to be
dns servers, and clients are setup to point to multiples (so if one
is down, the client goes to the next in the list).

So you could make both nodes in the cluster DNS servers, and point
the clients to both nodes.

Something to watch is for management, ie you want to be able to
update the dns server reliably...

I think there are other discussions of this in the conference if you
want to search..

I would suggest bind dns as strings...
