2013.0. "Service Status" by NNTPD::"mcmaster@mail.dec.com" (Euan McMaster) Tue Apr 22 1997 13:34

What is the easiest and most reliable way to determine the status of a disk
service at any instant. Is it possible to probe any of the daemons for status
information in the same way as 'asemgr -d'

My customer needs to be able to tell with 100% certainty which node is running
a disk service, and at what instant the backup node makes it live during a
failover.

Attempts to probe asemgr during failover result in it returning the ........
response (or database locked message ?)

Using df to see if the disks in the service are visible potentially results in
the daemons believing they are open and failing to unmount them and relocate
the service.

Any suggestions ??

Thanks, Euan

    Add some code into the start and stop scripts to "log" the events
    somewhere?

    Or check /var/ase/tmp for a file SERVICENAME_IS_RUNNING.
