1998.0. "EBU online backup" by MIPSBX::"richard.carter@gmt.mts.dec.com" (richard.carter "NSIS UK") Mon Apr 14 1997 20:02

Hi Leo,

Yes, EBU can backup an Oracle database, even when it's up.

The online backup will backup the common area (data files, etc), and will also
backup the non-shared areas (the redo logs individual to each node( a
thread)).

To achieve this:

1. ALL archive redo logs must be in an area accessable to the NSR server.
i.e. on an NFS service.

2. Each node must hard code their thread id into the logs.
    e.g. init.ora:
     thread = 1 (or 2,3) must be unique in the cluster
     log_arch_format = log%s_%t.arc (%t = thread number).

Thanks and regards,
Richard.
