1944.0. "NFS,YP problem with ASE?" by MSBCS::GRADY () Wed Mar 12 1997 13:13

	Hello,

I have a four node clump of 8400's running TCR 1.4 and ASE 1.3.

The systems are running ASE NFS services and all local file systems
are NFS mounted to each other node in the cluster.

What we are experiencing is thast on one node you can't get any
file system info via "df" nor can you rlogin to thatt node.

It seems NFS is trying to resolve something and it refers to the
NFS ASE service on that node. The service itself seems fine. I can
access it and send data back and forth. I also can relocate the service
to another node using the asemgr.

It gets to a point, after a period of time, that the system slows down
and you can no longer login or access the node in any way and a reboot
is the only thing that clears it. When it comes backup the whole process
		starts all over again.

On the console the following error messages appear:"

ypbind:secure mode sunos 3.x servers rejected
	ypbind: can;t recognize tcp service
ypbind: going down on signal 6

	rpc.statd: svc_register error for 100024 1 udp

This repeats several times then no accces is available.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? I'm referring to this
notes file because it's using the ASE nfs mount daemon and the NFS
keeps referring to the ASE service.

					Thanks in advance

Dennis,

No we have not seen this before. Based on the description you gave I would
look at the network and administrative configuration of your environment.
I do not think your problem lies in ASE. Track down the reasons why many
network based services are having problems and why your server continues to
hang.

When you determine your problem please post the answer here.
