1927.0. "Q: NFS services, can you have RW to some and ROOT=0 to others ?????" by COPCLU::PETERC () Fri Mar 07 1997 10:17

Hi,

I have a customer that is trying to export an NFS service via ASE to two
groups of system.

The first group needs root access to the service (system managers), the
second group is PC-users mounting the service RW. I have looked at the ASEMGR
tool and can't see any way to export a NFS-service to the two groups, can it
be done ????

Isn't there a tool other than ASEMGR to 'edit' the /etc/exports.ase.nfs-service
file ?

Peter,

If you need to NFS export an area to two different types of client access
then you need two different directories. This is an NFS restriction and
not an ASE restriction. The following text was taken from the exports(4)
man page:

Duplicate directory entries are not allowed. The first entry is valid and
  following duplicates are ignored.

Thus you need two different mount points defined in your ASE service. One
is used to serve system managers and the other for normal clients. If the
NFS exports file did allow this you could either define it in the asemgr
menu when creating the service or exiting the exports file via the asemgr
modify option.
