1922.0. "rpc.statd/rpc.lockd out to lunch" by NETRIX::"buttafuoco@mail.dec.com" (Jim Buttafuoco) Wed Mar 05 1997 23:25

I have a customer with the following ASE 1.3 setup.

2 2100A systems
ASE 1.3
Digital Unix 3.2D-2
1 Shared HSZ40 with 4 6 disk RZ29 Raid 5 sets
2.1 Million files spread accoss 3 file systems.
3 NFS services dsrc,dbuilds,dtools.

The system has been serving about 600 PC clients running various
versions of FTP software PC-NFS client since 8/96. Today the rpc.lockd daemon
stopped working for all 3 services.

As far as I know ASE runs a different rpc.lockd and rpc.statd for every NFS
service so nothing is in common
except the program image (is this correct?).

What I did to get them back working is the following steps:

cd /var/ase/mnt/dsrc/src
mv .ase .ase.old
kill -15 pid-of-rpc.statd-for-dsrc-service
kill -15 pid-of-rpc.lockd-for-dsrc-service
mkdir -p .ase/nfs_lock
asemgr -r dsrc

repeat this for dbuilds and dtools services.
This seems to fix the problem for now.

Also other Digital UNIX clients were not affected by this.

My questions for the NFS/networking guru's is
Is there a 64 bit limit with lockd/statd that the PC clients
can't handle? or is it something else.

I have asked the customer to call the CSC and report this.

Thanks
Jim
