Just curious if anyone has any info on Greater Boston Collectors Club
(which sponsors the upcoming show at Shriner's)? Is it worth becoming
a member? What other benefits do members get besides getting to that
    show for free?

    \thx, alex

    Here are some ...

    * a monthly meeting which has both a show (20-30 tables) as well as an
     auction.

    * a monthly newsletter in which you can run short ads (5-10) lines.

    * some shops give discounts to GBCC members

    Is it worth the $$s? ... I don't know ...

I actually stoped last night in Burlington's KofC where they have
a monthly show/meeting . Dues are $12/year and they collect now
    $18 till april '95. It's probably ok if you're a "hard-core"
dealer but it's not worth that money if you're just a collector.

The GBSCC 8th Annual Show is from 11/12 to 11/14 at the Shriner's
Auditorium in Wilmington. A couple of us out here in Seattle are going
to be in that area around that time, and are thinking of sticking around
for one day of the show.

Questions: What can we expect ? Is it fairly orderly, or utter chaos ?
What's the parking situation like ? Shows out here in the Northwest are
generally pretty orderly affairs, but sometimes inordinately crowded
because of where they're held. Just wondering if it's the same there...

One of us collects cards, concentrating on the 1963 Topps set. The other
collects autographed memorabilia, mostly baseballs/3x5s/8x10s of pre-1965
players, and some minor league stuff. Is the show a good mix of cards and
memorabilia, or heavier on one than the other ? How are the prices ?

Will there be any guests ?

And lastly, anyone know how to get there ? I know it's exit 39 off of
Rt. 93, but that's it. Do we need to know any more ?

Lots of questions, I know, but thanks for any information you can
    provide.

    Peter

If you're looking for old stuff I strongly recommend this show. I completed
both my '67 and '68 sets at this show a couple of years ago.

588.11So What did you think of the Show?POWDML::GASPARONIMon Nov 15 1993 15:4017
What did everyone think of the show?? I went on Sunday, took along my
9 year old son, who enjoyed it thanks in part to Mike Kelly giving away
free cards, and offering to the younger generation a fine asortment of
newer cards for half price. I hope you did well Mike, because the
other dealers prices appeared to be outrageously HIGH! Did anyone else
get the immpression that the older material was priced beyond
expectations. WOW! I couldn't beleive the prices, and the lack of
dealers willing to deal on prices. Mike, you must have walked around
alittle, did you find prices to be high, or have I been removed from
the hobby too long? The older stuff was just out of site.

I'm glad there are still guys out there willing to be honest dealers
like Mike Kelly, at least he offers you cards at affordable prices. A
case in point, my son was looking at a ShaQ card from Mike for $4.00,
Mike's price was at 50% off; and another dealer had the same card,
offered to my son for $15, and would give it to him for $12. Whats
    going on here??
588.12Good Show...NWD002::TUTAK_PERickenbackerhackerMon Nov 15 1993 16:1725

This is just a note of thanks to Mike Kelly for his hospitality and
graciousness all day Friday. I wouldn't have enjoyed the show as much,
but more importantly, (because of a flight schedule) would not have been
able to get around as much to really examine what some dealers had to
offer, had I not had the extra time which Mike helped provide me. I
also had the pleasure of meeting Dennis Corrigan.

I could have kicked myself, though. One of the dealers was offering an
old NYC business card that had signatures on the back from Ruth and
Dickey. I didn't have any facsimiles with me to compare, but the Dickey
was certainly OK, and the Ruth looked pretty good. At $350, though, a
mistake is pretty expensive, so I held off. Dickey passed away the same
day, probably driving the value of the piece up a bit.

I did manage to pick up some older signatures (Frisch, Wes Ferrell,
Alston, Paige, Flick, Stengel, Crawford) whose characteristics I was
familiar with from a dealer that Mike recommended me to, for a very
    good price.

Thanks again, Mike. Please let me know if I can return the favor from
out here in Seattle in any way.

    Pete

Well, I agree with an earlier reply which mentioned the unwillingness
of dealers to 'deal'. This is the first year I've ever seen it. Mike
Kelly, and one other dealer, were the only two I found who would even
discuss prices. I actually went home with almost 50% of my $$$'s!!!
(Sorry Mike..) Anyway, my future dollars will stay with the local
dealers and Mike Kelly. The prices are the same, or lower, and I get the
added pleasure of conversation and the knowledge of helping a local business
person! Maybe all the deals were gone by the time I arrived with my son
on Saturday (9:00 AM), but again, I was surprised. My son also had the
pleasure of paying $5 for a $1.50 David Robinson card, which of course,
the dealer had priced at $8. I hope he slept well!!!

588.15the guys from smalltown PANWD002::KOPEC_STSquash:Racketball::Chess:CheckersTue Nov 30 1993 15:4418
I attended the show for a couple of hours on Sunday and had the same
opinion (unwillingness to deal) of the majority of dealers; however,
coming from Seattle I have to say that I was very impressed with the
quantity of 'old stuff'. Seattle shows are 80-90% 'new stuff' as you
might expect in a city where there is not as strong a tradition as on
    the east coast.

There was one large booth on the right as you walked in, the guys were
from someplace in Pennsylvania and they had tons of 50s and 60s cards,
many in NrMt condition. I bought a couple of 63s off of them to get me
closer to completion on my 63 Topps set, and I meant to swing back there to
    get their card/address/tel # but I forgot.

Since they seemed to be the premier dealer in 50s and 60s cards (even
though their prices were high), by any chance did anyone pickup their
business card? If so, could you post their tel # here?

    						Thx, Stan

Mike Kelly may still have the floor plan for all the dealers. He might
be able to help you. 707 Sportscard is out of Plumsteadville PA.

hmmm that sounds vaguely familiar. I just saw an ad for 707 in this
month's Becketts and called them. They said they were at the Boston
show so it must be them. Thx, Stan
