694.0. "Seeking donated items for School Bazaar.." by FLDSVC::RICHARD () Mon Apr 10 1995 16:46

Well, it's that time of year again, time for my annual plea....
On June 8th, 9th, and 10th of this year, I will be running a Sportscard
booth, for St. Leo's School in Leominster, Ma. As I do every year, I
depend on the generosity of readers in this notefile, and a few local
dealers that are in the Leominster area. This is a non-profit
organization, so all donations are tax deductible and all profits are
turned over to the school. I have been lucky for the past 3 years, to
have met so many generous people from this notesfile.

If you have any items that are sports related (cards, memorabilia, etc.)
that you would be interested in donating to this worthwhile event,
please contact me, and I will arrange pickup or mailings of your items.
Some of the past donaters have used this as a means to "clean out" if
you will, their collections of items no longer wanted. Some have also
used as a means to take the tax write-off, especially on items
purchased not too long ago for a premium, and now prices have
plummetted. I can always use commons, star cards, packs, boxes, sets,
etc. I work in hudson, Ma, and live in Leominster, Ma. and if I can't
arrange pickup, I'll handle the shipping.

Also, this year like last year, the St. Leo's Bazaar, will be visited
by 2 New England Patriot players on Saturday, june 10th. I'm not sure
who they will be yet, but autograghs are FREE.....For the 2nd year, I
will also be running a sports raffle.....Last year, the raffle had 4
prizes....A Patriots football autographed by the team, A t-shirt auto-
graphed by 6 Boston Bruins, a Joe Montana Rookie card, and a t-shirt
autographed by 16 REd Sox players.....If you would like more info, or
would like to donate items, please contact me:

    Steve,
Not a bad idea....Not quite sure how I could implement the idea,
though...I normally have a "chinese auction" for the top prizes....
Here's how it works: items are placed on a table, with a bucket next
to each prize. tickets are sold, (usually something like 3/ $.50 or
7 for a $1.) you can either put all the tickets in one bucket, or
divide them up any way you choose. The Football and the Montana rookie
card were big favorites that year. This seemed to big a hit, so unless
I had 2 separate raffles, I'm not sure how I could use both raffles..
Normally I only have 3-5 top notch prizes, so it would be difficult to
determine which prizes would be used in what raffle....If I get another
Patriots football this year, I'll certainly let you know.....

    Fran
