652.0. "1994 Upper Deck Collector's Choice Football" by ASABET::KELLY_M () Tue Aug 16 1994 12:56

    Collectors choice football is out. I havn't bought football wax since
    1989, but I tried a box of this stuff because it was cheap. I like it!
    I was particularly impressed by the game insert cards. The cards
    have a player on the front and three dates on the back-
    If the player scores on one of those dates you win a prize, if he
    scores on two of those dates you win another prize an the same with
    three. The reason I like it is because it shows a little sense. It
    keeps the collector watching games ( or reading the bax scores)
    to see haw a player has done. It develops loyalty for a team or player
    and it keeps the cards active - rather than I have that set so I'll put
    it away and forget it.
    The packs are cheap.

    I also liked the Collectors choice baseball- but only because I liked
    the scratch off game and the signatures.

    That must have been a dealer box. I got retail and didn't get those
    cards.
652.2Crash the Game CardsTWOBA::HAYESTue Aug 16 1994 18:2619
    I was playing pack poker with a dealer. We were going by things like:
    Heaviest Player, Most career Fumble Recoveries etc.... Inserts
    were lost if you lost. The card facing the dealer in my pack was
    a Bledsoe Crash the Game Card. Fortunately I won with Ronnie Lott
    on an oldest player pack......whew......

    I liked them too. Didn't know that retail didn't have the Crash
    Cards. I'll be careful before I buy a box.

    It's really getting where every box has some season long gimick.
    Classic Offensive Rookie of the year, Proline MVP, TSC Teams cards,
    Leaf BB MVP, etc..... The next insert wave is upon us......

    I do like it better than the past insert stuff though. I was very
    interested in the SB last year because I had a Cowboys card and no
    Bills.

    The Crash the Game insert cards are in both.
    I was averaging two per box on the inserts + 1 Gold card.
    There is also a silver logo card in each pack.

    Just bought couple of packs of UDCC FB and pulled a gold Terrell
    Buckley form the Packers.

    Is this guy any good? Is this reasonable "trade bait"

    Since I was in a wax pack opening mood last night, I picked up a box
    of these. Got a Lorenzo White gold card, a Shannon Sharpe Crash The
    Card and some stiff named Barry Sanders Crash The Card. Also got some
    winner card for an 8 card "Then and Now" Hologram set. Since I liked
    the baseball edition of Upper Deck Collector's Choice I liked this
    set also. Some of the silver foil cards I got were Jerome Bettis, Joe
    Montana, Rick Mirer. I didn't sort the entire box, but I did get all
    cards from the three subsets (cards 1-60).

    By the way, I'm looking for the silver foil checklists of 381, 382
    and 384.

652.14New image for UD??NEMAIL::PAVLOCKMon Aug 29 1994 14:1919
    I opened and sorted a box of UD CC football over the weekend. I was
    most impressed!!

    I got 3 Carsh the Game cards, Thurman Thomas, Drew Bledsoe and Chuck
    Johnson, a Holos mail-in, the Pat Harlow gold card and all but 9 of the
    regular cards for a complete set!!! I got lucky as well with both the
    Emmitt Smith and Shuler rookie Silver cards.

    UD really blew their image (with me) on this box. Whoever heard of
    getting 375 of 384 cards in one box from UD. I have to write them and
    tell them of their screw up.

    Seriously, this was very unusual for UD. Collated was really remarkable
    for them.

    Regards,
    Denny

652.15UD repentsSEND::TANCILLSponsered by nobodyMon Aug 29 1994 18:468

    UD may be finally responding to all the complaints about poor
    collation. Their regular football issue (330) also apparently
    collates well. The guy at All Star Sports Cards in Merrimack (nh)
    was amazed when he got a complete set from a single box.

652.16Maybe there's a problem with their collation ;-)PENUTS::JST_ONGEJohn St.Onge USDSL DTN: 297-9527Tue Aug 30 1994 01:026
    The regular baseball and second series Collector's Choice sorted
    well also. I bought a pack of the regular football issue. I thought
    it'd be like the regular baseball, but it was much nicer set. If
    there's some decent prices Saturday at BG I may pick up a box.
