609.1Any current info on '54 reprint set?USCTR1::PAVLOCKTue Jan 04 1994 23:0911

Anyone heard anything more about the '54 Topps reprint set?

I was talking to my local dealer, who deals directly with Topps, last
night and he still has no offer from Topps for these cards.

Any ads/prices for boxes in SCD?

    Regards,
    Denny

I think dealers either have the order forms, or just ordered it.

I pretty sure it's due out in May or June. I'll check with my local
    dealer and let you know.

Ads in SCD say mid-April for this product. Most have call for prices
although one dealer was selling them for 59$ a box.

I read an article that Upper Deck won't let Topps reprint the Ted
Williams card in this set since Ted Williams is under contract to
    UD Authenticated.

    Sounds correct.

I got an ad for boxes or sets over the weekend that I forgot to bring
in today. Boxes were going for mumblemumble while sets were $43. The
ad specifically said #1 & #250 were *not* reprinted. I believe #1 is
the Williams card. Anyone have a checklist to tellus what #1 & #250
    are?

I'll try to remember the ad tonight.

Also Aaron's too. I wonder if they'll be doing any extra cards like
they did in '53 Archives where they included an Aaron card. I don't
know about you, but if they leave out cards 1 and 250 it's a pretty
big hole in the set. You'll have a set that starts out with card 2.
I hope they work out something with UD and like they mentioned in
the article have a send-away offer with money going to BAT.

Here's the ad I received ... I called and asked about group prices ...
I was told we could get a case (24 boxes) for $765 delivered .. that's
about $32/case. I'm going to go for a set eventually but if you guys
want to organize a case order go for it.

I just called the Card Collecting Company (see .9) again. Topps is now
saying late May for the 54 Reprints (instead of late April).

Anyone have any information on the 54 Archives yet?
Who has them for sale and how much are they per pack/box?
How many cards in the set and how many in the gold set?
Is it a nice set? How does it compare to the 53 Archives set?

    Thanks,

    Mike

609.13Actual '54 Topps experience!!USCTR1::PAVLOCKTue May 24 1994 17:1820
Here's my experience with a box of the '54 Archives:

	- '54 Topps Archives very similiar to '53
	- UV coated reprint of '54 set
	- Set does not include #1 & #250 both Ted Williams cards, so I'm
told, but I didn't get any checklist yet
	- 24 packs/box with 12 cards/pack
	- each pack has one "goal" card so you end up w/11 '54 reprints +
in my box, each pack had 2 of the same card, therefore I ended up
with 10 cards from the '54 set per pack.
	- They added at least 6 cards that we not part of the original '54
	  set as #'s 251-256
	- I ended up 107 cards short of a 256 card set
	- I paid 43.95 (tax was included) for my box but Rotman's has them
for $30 if they still have any

	Regards,
	Denny

609.14Cards #1 and 250 will be in 1994 UD Heroes of BaseballPENUTS::JST_ONGEJohn St.Onge USDSL DTN: 297-9527Sat Aug 13 1994 00:2319
I was scanning through ads in teh latest SCD and one company had an
ad for the Upper Deck 1994 Heroes of Baseball. What made the ad in-
teresting was they mentioned that you can get cards #1 and 250 for
the 1954 Topps Archive somehow by buying this product. As we all
know, Ted Williams was featured on both cards 1 and 250 in the
original set. The ad mentioned that cards 1 and 250 will be Mantle
and Williams so they must've made up a Mantle card for the set and
replaced one of the Williams cards.

The ad didn't give any details on how you get the cards, but I'm
glad Upper Deck (with permission and help from Topps no doubt , plus
a cut probably) are doing this.

By the way, those of you who didn't purchase last year's Upper Deck
Heroes set missed out on a pretty nice set done in the Hassan Triple
Folder format. Granted there's no rookies etc., but it was nicely
done. I'm still missing one %$^%*^ card though (164 - hint, hint).
