607.0. "'93-'94 Fleer Ultra Basketball" by CARTUN::PAVLOCK () Mon Nov 29 1993 00:02

    Fleer Ultra Basketball is out. Nice looking set. Series I is a 200
    card set. I'm one card short in the first set and about 30 cards short
    in a second set.

    It's got the following insert sets:

    	14 NBA 1st/2nd/3rd team inserts

    	 5 All Rookie 1st Team inserts

    	5 or 10 Karl Malone's

    	10  Scoring Kings

    If anyone else plans to open a box send me a message. I kept track of
    where I found the 8 inserts I got in my box. I'll send you where I
    found my inserts and I'd like to where you found your inserts.

    Regards,
    Denny

    Not sure where I found my inserts. I get a full first set and came
    within 10 of a second set.

    I like what Fleer is doing with their "big" card sets. You get one
    insert per pack in the GameDay, Jam Session and Power Play boxes.

    Some. I remember Bradley, Lynch, Chaney, and others. No Webber.
    I don't think there's a Mashburn.

    Just wanted to let you know, that I have picked up a few packs and
    gotten the O'Neal scoring king and one other that doesn't come to mind.
    I just wonder, if the prices will stay up or come down drastically like
    last years did? Any thoughts?

    Ultra will be weak again this year, just my opinion. Skybox and
    particularly Stadium are selling well, Ultra series 1 is sitting
    in quantity still at the wharehouses, seeing it at many retail
    stores too. Fleer can't put out anything but an update set
    in "limited" quantities, plus all versions Ultra are being hurt
    by having the same design again, same old bunches of inserts, tired.

    Having said all that, I don't think prices will come down as
    drastically as last year, since the prices aren't starting as
    high to begin with.

    Their design is getting a little tired. Even their X-Men issue has the
    same design. Too many insert sets also.

    Anyone know the name of the subset that's 1 per box in Ultra II?
    I know the subsets are:
    Inside-outside
    Rebound King
    Nicknames
    All-Rookie
    ?????

607.11Question from European dummy ...LEMAN::WENGERMax Wenger @GVO - REUTERS account teamMon May 02 1994 21:466
My son is a basketball fan and card mania is starting to hit Europe. As I will
soon be travelling in the US, I wondered were one buys these cards, e.g. the
Fleer Ultra series ... ?

What's the packaging ... and price ?

607.1219755::MCEVOYTue May 03 1994 12:229
    If you see a Sports Card Store, they would surely have them there.

    Also, Fleer ships a lot of its cards to retail stores, drug stores
    (e.g. CVS), and wholesale stores like Sams.

    There are plenty of them here in New England, I don't think you'll
    have a problem finding them anywhere in the US.

Thanks Dennis, what about packaging and prices ?

    Where are you going to be? Boston area?

    You have a couple of options. You can buy them in packs of 15 cards
    per pack for around $1.25-$1.75 per pack. Or, you can buy them in a
    box with around 36 packs per box. If you go to a card store, or some
    place like Sam's or BJ's, you can get them for a bit of a discount.

I think I got the basics. I'll be in the New York area and New Orleans (DECUS).
Should be able to find something.

Thanks for all the info.
607.16Use Beckett's tooUSCTR1::PAVLOCKThu May 05 1994 13:168
    BTW, Get a Beckett's and look for local shows in those two area.

    If you get a chance to go to a show, shop most of the show, then buy at
    the best (or better) prices.
