| I had a similar experience when I was back home at my parents house
a couple weeks ago. I was going through one of my old drawers and I
found a flyer from Star Co. trying to sell their new basketball
cards. This was from 1984 and they were offering their first 5
team sets (celtics, lakers, mavericks, and a couple others) for
$2.50 each of all 5 for 10$. These 5 sets go for something like
200$ each today. I remember ordering the first set that they made
in 1983 which was an all-star game set, but I guess
I must have passed on their next offer...oh well, at least there
were a couple free cards in the envelope as well, a Clark Kellogg
XRC, and a couple others. There was also a three panel Steve
Carlton uncut strip. If there are any big Carlton fans out there,
send me mail.
Anyway, it was funny to see, and I think I'll save it away in
my archives.

| Hi John,
If you wait long enough, you'll see those prices again. The stuff
is dropping like a lead balloon out there. (The new stuff Post 1981 any
way). Its fun to look back and see what stuff was priced back just
7 years ago. I have a 1st issue of Baseball Cards Magazine, and the
Mantle Topps Rookie was selling for $800, and they said pick up as
many as possible, its a sure investment potential card. That is only
11 years ago.
Anybody go to the National this year?? Jerry McSween went out,
and said the place was absolutely "packed" with people, the lines were
1 to 2 hours long for the give aways, and free autographs, and the
prices on the old stuff in mint condition were bringing down record
prices. Dealers were very hesitant in buying the first few days, but
were buying older cards by the end of the show to replenish there
inventories in record amounts. I have not read anything in SCD on
how the show was. Anybody get any feed back from anyone else??
