517.0. "1992 Fleer Excel Minor League Baseball" by FUTURE::JST_ONGE (John St.Onge USDSL DTN 275-2715) Tue Dec 22 1992 22:56

This note is for the new 1992 Fleer Excel Minor League cards. It's
    a 250 card set with a 10 card Excel All-Star team. Player's name
and team are gold embossed and the cards are UV coated. Excel, by
the way, used to be the company Pro Cards which was bought out by
Fleer, which was bought out Marvel Comics.

Anybody know where you can get the new Fleer/ProCards or 1993 Classic
minor league stuff at a reasonable price? Or is this kind of stuff
condemned to the specialty market where if you want it, you gotta pay?

Glenn, is that Classic Best Minor League or one of their other
offerings ? Classic Best I usually wait for their factory sets
since the collation is bad in wax boxes and not many dealers
carry minor league singles. There doesn't seem to be much in-
terest in minor league cards, although Classic will find a way
to put a Shaq insert in it.

I liked Fleer's Excel cards last year. I think the ProCards
set will be a big set and if Fleer charges 20$ a box, it'll be
    expensive to complete.

I'll look in SCD and see if there are any ads.

Yeah, supposedly 149 teams and over 3500 player cards. I didn't know
if you'd be able to buy them all mixed together in boxes or as a
complete factory set (as opposed to only team sets) or what. If
you can, it's something I wouldn't mind having to serve as kind of
a reference directory of all professional players, but not at
    inordinate expense and/or effort.

Latest issue of SCD has a big ad from a company called Ball Four
Cards (a 10 year SCD Customer Service Award winner). Anyway, they
have both Classic Best and Fleer Pro Cards advertised.

It doesn't mention the specific number of cards for either set,
but the Classis Best sets are from the following leagues:

California, Carolina, Florida State, Midwest, South Atlantic,
New York Penn, Northwest and Appalachian. 89 sets all total. Cost
for all 89 sets is 339$ including shipping. They also have some
specials like 10 sets at 4.50$ each etc.

The Fleer ProCards has 111 teams sets listed at 381$ including
shipping. They also have some specials like 10 sets at 4$ each.
Definitely an expensive item to put together, but not bad if
you're just looking for your favorite teams minor league sets.

Thanks again, John. As suspected, the full sets are pretty steep. I'll
keep my eyes open if I get around to any shows later this year...
