495.0. "1993 Fleer Baseball" by FUTURE::JST_ONGE (John St.Onge USDSL DTN 275-2715) Mon Dec 07 1992 23:18

    This note is for 1993 Fleer Baseball. According to the checklist I
    got, it looks like it'll be two series. The first series has 360
    cards with three checklists, four superstar specials, five league
    leaders and five "NL Round Trippers". There are - drum roll please

495.1Good deal on the insertsFUTURE::JST_ONGEJohn St.Onge USDSL DTN 275-2715Wed Jan 13 1993 00:1517
    Through a dealer in SCD I ordered the following Fleer Insert sets:

    Golden Moments
    Major League Prospects
    Tom Glavine
    All-Stars
    Pro Visions

    for a whopping

    32$ !

    I also ordered two regular sets (series I) for 15$. All total plus
    shipping 67$.  I figured I would've probably bought at least 3 wax
    boxes and several singles so I probably made out this way.

    Bought a box of these this weekend, price was $25. I got 92% of the
    first series, 2 Glavine's (Both were #1!), 4 Rookie Prospects (of 18
    in the subset, and 2 of one card!), 3 NL AS's (again got 2 of 1 card!)
    and 1 Pro Vision.

    I personally think it is a very nice set.....and of course I have a
    wantlist if anyone would like trade.

495.3Poor QC!KAOS::STOLLMon Jan 25 1993 15:116
    I opened 2 boxes. I like the cards but 30% of the first box was
    either mis-cut or had been damaged. Fleer will get a nice letter
    and a box of returns from me!

495.4Some more poor QC ...FUTURE::JST_ONGEJohn St.Onge USDSL DTN 275-2715Tue Feb 09 1993 19:5021
    For you variation collectors, there exist 8 variations in the
    Tom Glavine Insert set. These variations are found only in the
    Series I wax packs, which means everyone will rush out to buy
    series I packs now ;-) Anyway, the variations can be found
    with the first words of text. Listed below are the correct and
    variation versions of the text:

    Card # Correct Text Variation Text
    ------  ---------------------	----------------------
      1 The Glavine Family Tom Glavine's dream
      2 High School Baseball	After winning
      3 Despite being drafted	Little Leaguers
      4 Unflappable is Will success spoil
      7 Tom Glavine's dream The Glavine family
      8 After winning High School baseball
      9 Little Leaguers Despite being drafted
     10 Will success spoil Unflappable is

    Rack and cello packs have the corrected versions.

    Picked up some Fleer Rack Packs tonight (2$ each, 27 cards per with
    1 Team Leader card). I got the Thomas, Griffey Jr., Juan Gonzalez
    and Clemens Team Leader cards. Nice insert set and should be fairly
    easy and affordable to complete. The rack packs also include the
    Glavine inserts, but it's easy to tell what's in the packs because
    the Glavine inserts are white, which makes it easy to pick out when
    you look at the bottom section of the rack pack. The team leaders
    are gold bordered. The cards in the packs can't be slid back and
    forth to see who's who, but at least you can tell if you're getting
    a team leader or Glavine card. Also you can see the top and bottom
    cards in each section. The local CVS drug store must have had about
    200 rack packs out.

495.61993 Fleer Final EditionPENUTS::JST_ONGEJohn St.Onge USDSL DTN 275-2715Mon Oct 11 1993 15:4213
    I broke open a 1993 Fleer Final Edition Set. 310 cards all total.
    300 cards are the same design as the regular cards. There is also a
    10 card insert set called Diamond Tribute and it's cards of future
    "hall of famers" like Dave Winfield, Nolan Ryan, George Brett etc.
    Not a bad insert set, gold borders, horizantal cards with two nice
    shots on front.

    The other 300 cards include full team sets of the Rockies and Mar-
    lins and also the regular traded and rookie players found in the
    regular update sets. I don't think this one will be scarce like
    last year's update set.
