499.0. "GBSCC Show Nov 13-15" by SONATA::KELLY () Mon Oct 26 1992 10:50

    The greater Boston Sports Collectors Club is having it's three day show
    November 13, 14, 15 at the Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington Ma.
    There will be two autograph guests- Rollie Fingers and Dwight Evans.
    This is the seventh year for the show and is the New England version
    of the National. Admission on Friday is $15 bucks unless you are a
    member of the Greater Boston Sports Collectors Club. Saturday and
    Sunday are much cheaper at 5 bucks and two bucks for kids. The show
    is a fundraiser for the shriners and for the Jimmy Fund.
    The Club loses money on the show.

    As always I'll be hanging around tables 55-56. All dec employees
    will get a team set (your choice) for each of their children and
    themselves free of charge.

    Hope to see you there.

How much for the autographs? What times will Dwight/Rollie be there?

I saw in Beckett's that it's "145 tables/sold out".  Yow!  Sounds like
it'll be a madhouse.

What's the best time to come if you don't want to wade through people
for hours on end?

    Autograph info;
    Flat items and Balls 10.00
    Uniforms and Bats 25.00
    Dwight will be there on Saturday 12-3
    Rollie on Sunday 11-2
    The best time to get there is when it opens and buy your
    autograph ticket number then shop until your number is called.
    Shop means panic buy at tables 55-56 ( Hometown Heros ).
    The autograph numbers are called up in blocks to avoid long lines.
    Also, signers are in a better mood early in the morning ( except
    Mickey ).
    Hope to see you there.

499.3Final Questions PleaseSONATA::KELLYFri Nov 06 1992 11:2813
    I'm outta here for most of next week so if you have a question
    regarding the show, please let me know. I'll be at tables 55-56,
    so please stop by and say hello-pick up some free team sets.
    Every Year I try to have something different at my tables. Two
    years ago I had the original 1953 Mantle and Mays lithographs that were
    used to create the 1953 Topps cards.
    This year I am bringing three 18X22 limited numbered and
    certified prints (made from negatives) of-
    Babe Ruth pitching at Fenway - In a Red Sox Uniform
    Joe Jackson from the negative used to produce his 39 Goudy
    Lou Gehrig - after a game
    Stop by.

    Thanks to all of the notes that stopped by !!!
    I think at least 50 folks with their families stopped to say hello
    and pick up the team sets. It was good to meet all of you again.
    My tables were mobed all weekend, so if I seemed slightly rushed
    or distracted I was. Shows are really hard to do.
    Thanks Again.
    If anyone wants to provide feedback to the cardshow, I'll
    be glad to pass it on

499.7Floorplan of GBSCC show...??ICS::LERRAMon Nov 16 1992 16:236
    Hey Mike....do you have access to a map of the floor? I lost the name
    and number of a dealer I wanted to contact again. I remember where he
    was, but not the table numbers!

    thanks,

    Good show overall, sorry I didn't stop by Mike. A lot of older cards
    and memorabilia.

    I had a lot of more current stuff I was looking for to finish off sets.
    A lot of wax boxes but I found few tables had "current" singles
    available. Maybe it wasn't worth carrying them around, but I put a
    very small dent in the list I was looking for. One table had the
    UD Scouting Reports, but none had Pinnacle Slugfest when I was there,
    saw UD Euro-Star inserts but not UD Hockey commons, no basketball
    commons, etc... If I had known, I would have worked harder on my
    70's Topps sets I was looking for.

    Walt, I picked up a Slugfest set for 30$ which I didn't think was too
    bad. This guy has a lot of singles also. I also picked up a 1992 Score
    Hot Rookies Insert set for 10$ and the UD Team Hologram Set for 22$.
    One guy had UD Factory sets from 1990 for 31$ and 1991 for 27$. Some
    of the traded sets from 1989, 1990 and 1991 were going for 3-4$. They
    had Playboy sets for 5$.

    I know what you mean about singles though. It seems like dealers don't
    open wax boxes anymore for commons etc.

    I do have a floor plan. Dennis send me your address.
    Commons. It's really hard to make back your table cost, and it's
    really a lot of stuff to carry.
    I use two stores to fill all of my commons lists, I use Hudmar in
    Marlboro, and center sports cards in Billierica.

499.11Nirvana for folks into oldiesA1VAX::BARTHSpecial KTue Nov 17 1992 13:065
I was fascinated by the quantity and quality of the old stuff at this
show. There were incredibly good things floating around. Of course
they weren't cheap.

    John, do you remeber who it was? Where on the floor?

499.13FUTURE::JST_ONGEJohn St.Onge USDSL DTN 275-2715Tue Nov 17 1992 23:185
    It was on the left hand side, first row on your right about half way
    down. I forgot to mention they had Stadium Baseball & Football all
    series for 32$.
