470.0. "Help Identifying Football Card" by BSS::G_MCINTOSH (Earn More Sessions By Sleaving) Mon Aug 17 1992 20:50

Gentlemen, I need your help in identifying a football card that I have.

It's standard size on white stock.

Front: It has green outer border with narrow gold inner border and
then a color picture of, in this case, Lance Alworth. The top says
"Football's All-Time Greats". There's an oval in the bottom left that
says "Playing Years 1962-1972" and the player's name is on bottom right.

Back: Top 1/3 of back has green box which has black print and gives
general stats. Bottom 2/3 of back is black print on white card stock
and gives a narrative of player and his career.

What is the name of this card?
Ex: 1986 Football's All-Time Greats or something like that.

I'm trying to file it but know nothing about it or where to put it and
no comments about where to put it! ;-)

Well John...I wasn't sure if it was within my collecting domain or not,
but I couldn't pass it up for $1.00.

Better to hoard now and identify later than not to have hoarded at all,
    or somethin' like that!

470.4One More Card To Identify...BSS::G_MCINTOSHEarn More Sessions By SleavingThu Aug 27 1992 17:2019

OK......you guys couldn't help me identify the last card, but what
    about this one?

Card is white stock paper. A little larger than standard card
    size. It measures 2 13/16 x 3 7/8 inches.

Front: shows picture of Dan Fouts with "Going the extra yard" in
red lettering on the top. Also has "NFL on CBS" on the bottom in white
    lettering.

Back: Red border with black lettering on white card stock. Has general
playing info on Dan Fouts with big CBS Eye in upper left corner.

Any idea what this card is?

Gee Glenn, it sounds like you've got one of the "NFL on CBS"
cards released in the late 70's or earlier 80's ;-)

Seriously though, where do you find this stuff ... Sounds
like the big Beckett's doesn't carry a lot of these odd ball
issues that you find. Maybe you should write a book on these
things or an article about them.

Ah! That's it. Thanks John! ~/~

    > Seriously though, where do you find this stuff ...

I check with 5 guys who do "sports oddities" and they have alot of
it or at least know where to find it. Yesterday in the mail, I
received my 1960 Fleer Team Decal. Also I got some cards from you.
Thanks alot. Between these 5 guys, I have a handle on alot of this
stuff. If anyone wants names and phone numbers, just send mail to
    	me.

    > Sounds like the big Beckett's doesn't carry a lot of these odd ball

You're right about that! The big Beckett's didn't have 1982
Marketcom, the NFL on CBS card, Quarterback Legends, etc. For Fleer
Big Signs, they only list 1968. Beckett's doesn't list that there are
2 variations of 81 TCMA, one with numbers and one without. So yea! I
somewhat disappointed in the big Becketts. Maybe I'll write them a
    letter and include photocopies.
