415.0. "1992 Coca Cola (Nolan Ryan)." by EBBV03::MONDALTO () Tue Apr 07 1992 16:09

    This note will be for 1992 Coca Cola (Nolan Ryan) Donruss cards.
    The good thing about this set is that you don't have to keep buying
    cases upon cases trying to complete the 26 card set,just mail in any
    3 proofs of purchase and $8.99 for the whole set,not bad.We can also
    trade in this note if it's okay with the Moderator (Roy).

    My wife picked up a couple of the 12-packs of diet coke, and these
    look like nice cards.

    I haven't opened the packs yet, since if I'm going to send away
    for the complete set, why bother?

    Donruss/Coke did it a lot better than Score/Pepsi did. They used
    the same kind of soft gum/glue to hold the cards in the pack,
    HOWEVER, Donruss/Coke wrapped the cards in a cello wrapper before
    doing so, so the glue doesn't get placed directly on the cards.

    Also, I believe there are 3 Donruss regular cards, and a special
    Nolan Ryan "career highlights" card in each "pack". It's easier
    to get your hands underneath the "stack" of cards to remove them
    w/out the cards getting damaged/bend/creased ala Score/Pepsi.

    The Nolan Ryan set is similar in design on the front (haven't
    seen the back yet) to the '92 Donruss cards, except rather than
    a white border, they have a silver border. Of course, the boxes
    display the cards with a gold border, so I'm not sure if there's
    two colored borders, or if the artwork on the boxes is wrong.

    I wonder if the unopened packs with a "star" showing on the bottom
    will carry any premium ... I got Bedrosian in one pack, and someone
    who I can't even remember in the other pack.

    Oh yeah, anyone know if the whole Donruss set is available this way?
    (Limited huh Donruss? Bwah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha .... )

    I got 2 Todd Van Popple's in seperate packs. I sent in for the complete
    set acouple of weeks ago,great idea Roy,if your going to send away for
    the set,why open them. It's much cheaper sending for the set instead of
    buying 12 packs,and only getting 1 Ryan card.

415.3I got Card No 1!SUBDLS::LUND"Scoop"Fri May 01 1992 15:339
I picked up a pack yesterday and got Card No 1, his 1966 card with the Mets.

Are the older cards CArds 1=10 going to be worth more in the long run??

How does the pricing work?

Thanks for any help,

Nancy

                       " Nolan Ryan Career Series "

    Just got my complete set,it looks like Donruss copied Sradium club
    as far as the package (Black Box) real nice looking,black,gold,and red.
    I saw a dealer this past weekend selling the complete set for $25.00,
    and that did not include the bax,they could of been hand coalated,I
    also see that their selling them for $1.00 ea..

    I did notice that the year 1967 is not in the set of cards.

	I have card 7 of 26 (If anyones interested in it)
415.6Almost there with a handmade setCSCMA::LEDONNEThis space intentionally left blankWed May 13 1992 15:4919
	By luck, my family drinks this stuff and I know some friends who do
	also. So far I have gotten almost 40 of these packs with the
	1 Ryan card and 3 Series I Donruss cards. I decided to open them
	because I didn't have any 92 Donruss, so I figured "What the hell?"
	I now have 100 cards in Series I from these promos, with less than
	20 dupes, so the distribution is pretty good. The distribution
	on the Ryan cards hasn't gone quite as well. I'm still 5 cards
	short of a handmade set and have dupes from at least 10 different
	years. So I'd like to trade for the cards I need (listed by year,
	not card #):

	1966 or 67 (whichever year card #1 is)
	1969
	1973
	1982
	1984

    I bought a set here in Greenville, S.C. for $10.50. It was still in its
    original box and wrapper! How does this price compare elsewhere?
415.8Sounds like a typical/decent priceA1VAX::BARTHShun the frumious BandersnatchTue Jun 23 1992 21:069
I got this set, obviously hand collated, from a card shop for $8.00.
I'm pretty sure this was a mistake by the guy behind the counter, but
there was no marked price and he seemed pretty sure that's what it was
supposed to cost. <insert shrug of shoulders here>

I'd say $10.50 in the original box is a good deal, especially if you
aren't much of a Coke drinker.  :^)
