383.0. "1992 Topps Stadium Club Baseball" by DDIF::TANCILL (long may you run) Thu Jan 30 1992 17:27

Well stomach this one if you can, 1992 Topps Stadium Club baseball
info is out to dealers and get this: 3 series, 900 cards in all!

Saw one dealer pre-selling series I boxes for $75/each. Topps has
vowed to make more this year to keep the price down, I hope by 'more'
they didn't mean just a third series. Hopefully patience will pay
off with these if Topps keeps to their word and cranks out a bunch.

I think personally I'll skip them, 3-300 card series is just too much.

Let's be honest here. What was great about Stadium Club in the
    first place?

    	o borderless photos.

if they add a border, they're detracting from the photo, and
actually taking a step backwards. if they don't add a border,
it's the same card (oh okay, the logo will be in a different
          place) with a different photo.

o rookie card reproduction on back.

second year cards? family photo? your guess is as good as
    	  mine.

    	o hi-gloss, nice stock.

on two of three big features for TSC, topps can't improve, and they
run the disk of not doing as well! on the third, they better
maintain, or it's not worth the effort.

I was severely disappointed with the second series this year. never
    mind a third series.

BTW -- Rotman's is taking pre-orders at $54.99 (saw it in SCD last
night, been meaning to enter it, Jeff's note spurred me on).

I'm not sure if this is the right stop for this but, I went
to a dealer in Worcester who's taken preorders on a 200 card
Stadium club set that highlights the usa team, world series and
rookies. The 200 cards come package in a dome shape box which
    is the blus jays stadium.
Has any body heard about these cards? Anyway the price for the
200 card set is $50 which is about $4 a card which I found to
be a little bit too high for me.

Heard an interview on the radio this weekend. They were interviewing a
rep. from topps, he said production on std.clb. would be increased, and
the price per pack would be in the $1.75 range. He confirmed 3 series
of 300 each but didn't mention the 200 card dome set.He said the will
be shipping earlier, they were shooting for early march.

    I've heard the following...
Price per pack to the dealers direct from Topps is 1.67-The SRP has to
be higher than 1.75. That maks this a 1000.00 dollar set if you build
from wax and have my luck. I still don't own, nor have I purchased
one pack of last years-won't own this years either.

BTW-If they are putting 900 in the set and another 200 in the dome,
who is in the set-looks like everyone on the 40 person roster for
    each team in the set...

    Not for this guy.

The dome is actually part of 1991 Stadium, not 92. It is an
update/commerative set that caps off 1991. Still 900 cards for
    1992 is silly.

    I don't understand the dealer cost being 1.67/pack, I have seen pre-sell
ads in SCD for that amount (i.e. $59-$60/box), doesn't make sense.
Are you sure that isn't the SRP $1.67 is close to $1.75 that the
topps spokesman talked about. We should know for sure when series I
    hits the wholesale clubs.

900 cards is just too many commons for me. I'll go the way I did on the
std clb fb, just pick up the biggies early;ie Sanders, E. Smith, T
Thomas ect. The sooner the cheaper.
I can see our local Toy r us, Kmart, ect charging $2.50. Everybody
wants a piece of the action any more. As this b.s. continues I continue
to be swayed toward the older cards.

Dennis, $42 sounds like a good deal.
When are the stadiums supposed to be in stores? Has anyone seen them
    yet?

Picked up my Dome Stadium Set last night. I really like it. Will the
dome itself have any value in the future? I assume only with the cards
    in it, right?

383.171991 Stadium Dome Set MisprintQETOO::HAYESThu Mar 05 1992 01:318
I picked up a set for $50 last Friday in Memphis (didn't find
an Elvis or Graceland Card in it). It is a nice set. I did find
a misprint on card 188. It is numbered 187. Both Ozzie Timmons
and David Tuttle (2 big names) are numbered 187. Notice
I called it a misprint not an ERROR. Are all Dome Sets
    numbered this way?

A local shop dealer has recently started direct with Topps and
just got his Dome case a few days ago. Is anyone (still) interested
in buying this set? If I can get together an order for a few
sets I can get them @ $40/each, which I believe is a pretty good
price from what I've seen. Factory cost is about $29.something,
call it $30 even. So $40 ain't bad for this dealer and not too bad
for us consumers, send mail if you're interested.
