Series I should hiy the shelves before the end of December. Series
I will consist of 225 cards. Among the subsets are a 10-card set
honoring active members of the 1,000 point club. These cards will
be randomly inserted into foil packs.

Printing will be limited to 15,000 cases, of which 2,500 will be
translated into French and distributed predominantly to French-
speaking provinces. All cases will be indiviually numbered.

I was hoping this would happen. Collectors need more hockey sets to
choose from. I think I will pass on this set and wait for the ultra
rare soon to be released Proset Parkhurst Primo set ;).

What's this ... card set # 26 for the year?

Does anyone have any further details on this set? When are these cards
going to be released? Will there be an English and a seperate French
    set?

    Any details will be appreciated.

Saw one pre-sell ad in SCD ... $49.95 a box.

Supposedly only 20,000 cases produced, but then, there were supposedly
only 8,000 french cases produced, and I've seen boxes of those for
    sale for $16 each ...

I saw them at Pace in Manchetser N.H. this weekend for $29.99 a box.
I was about to buy a box untill I saw Series I,that just about changed
my mind on buying them, then this guy next to me tells me that Pro Set
is trying very hard to make a comeback after what they did with the
Platinum Cards.I'm pretty sure that all you collectors know that they
produced more (CASES) than they were supposed to,so I think I'll save
my money for more Stadium Cards.

    Again, I produce the following.

Pro Set produced 8,000 cases of french hockey this year, and I saw
boxes of it for $14 (yes, FOURTEEN) this weekend.

They produced 2 1/2 times as much Parkhurst (20,000 cases) supposedly.

There's nothing special about the cards, the design isn't very eye
catching or appealing, and Topps luck with the Bowman line proves
that "history" or "nostalgia" isn't going to make the cards sell.

The *only* thing this has going for it is that it's a first issue.
I can tick off ten negatives to counter that.

This (IMO) is definitely one to wait for.

    -rjk

ps: I think Platinum was a very nice product, and I'm glad it's
readily available at $18-22/box. I don't think ProSet did
anything wrong with the Platinum cards -- from a collector
        standpoint.

    Roy,I totaly agree with you,as a collectors view it's a great card,
but wouldn't the value on the set(s) be much higer if they didn't
over produce ? I origanly bought many boxes based on what I read about
the limited production, and then somewhere down the road it was a big
    lie,they over produced their limit.

365.10Other comments on Parkhurst cardsCARTUN::PAVLOCKMon Jan 06 1992 12:0217
I purchased three packs of the Parkhurst cards at a show in Westboro,
Mass. yesterday. I like to cards. I agree with others that Pro Set
hasn't been very honest this year, but the Parkhurst card quality is
very nice. It is a lot like the Platinum cards. Higher gloss, rookie
cards, 1,000 point club cards, I got a PCH3 card of Kenny Hodge in one
pack. These must be the "special cards" like the PC 1-10 in the
    Platinum set.

Anyone have any details about the series one set? How many in the set?
How many PCH cards? Anyone see any prices for a box? The one guy at
the show yesterday was $1.50/pack and $45 for the box?

Comment on note 365.8: Where have you seen Pro Set Platinum for that
low of a price per box?

    RE: .9 (John)

Sure, if there's a *perceived* shortage, then the *PRICE* will
go up. Look at last year's Leaf and UD French.

As a collector, I could care less. If my sets go up, they go
up, I don't buy them with the intention of their going up in
price (notice I keep using price rather than VALUE, value is a
very subjective figure, and gives people the perception that
these are anything other than cardboard). I buy them because I
enjoy sports, sports memorabilia, opening wax boxes, trading
with my friends, and looking back at the cards. Each card or
card set will tend to bring back certain times in my life, and
it's like an main-line jolt of nostalgia for me.

Too often lately I see hobby/industry columnists writing things
    	like "collectors want ...

    		o limited production
o cards that will go up in value
    		o high quality/low quantity
o to NOT find their cards/card-sets on retail shelves
    			.
    			.
    			.".

BS. As a collector, I don't want any of those things except
high quality. I don't want special insert cards, unless they're
produced in such a quantity that it's easy/cheap to acquire them.
Ditto holograms, autograph cards, game pieces, stickers, etc.,
ad nauseum. I don't want limited production. I don't care if my
cards go up in price. If I didn't consider the money as
discretionary when I spend it on cards, I have no business spending
    it on those cards.

I want to be able to find my cards w/out having to order from
one of the franchises in SCD. I don't want to be inundated with
hype, lies, rumors, and innuendo. I just want to be able to collect
my cards and trade. I don't want to hear that I belong back on the
turnip farm with Tony. It was only a few years ago that this hobby
was a hobby. And heaven help the dealer who charged above SRP for
anything! He'd sit on his cards FOREVER. Heck, I can remember
picking up 2 boxes of '83 Topps Football in '87 for $7 -- not $7
each, it was 2 boxes for $7, at the first BG show I attended.
Did I buy every box the dealer had, knowing the cards would someday
be worth something? Nope. I bought two boxes because I knew one
would not yield a set, and no one (except me) collected football.

    RE: .10

I recently saw PS PLT HK at a card show in Sterling Mass (on a
snowy Tuesday night) for $22, he was trying to give them away at
$20 -- just to pay for his table.

At the "super show" in Adnover, PS PLT HK and FB were going for
$19/box on Sunday. I haven't checked the prices since then (that
was about a month ago), but I doubt they're the reason the Dow Jones
is setting record highs lately! 8^)

And the $14 for PS French was at the Marlboro show yesterday.

About the notes that discuss the card companies limiting production and
not doing it. Collectors seem upset that this wasn't done, maybe it
was maybe not who knows because they dont release actual numbers. I'm
sure that Proset and all the others want to keep people in the hobby by
having cards on the secondary market increase in value. BUT, they
impact the bottom line better if the sell more cards. I think its
really a catch-22, they get a bad rap for overproducing self imposed
quota limits. If the they do it they make money cash, business exist
    to turn a profit.

Suppose they cannot turn a profit at the 10,000 case volume, what do
you as a manager do. Produce or not? there are 2 alternatives 1.
cheat and over produce 2. be honest and over produce. I would like
to know if the card companies actually come out and say "we will only
produce 10000 cases" If they do and then they "accidentally miss it",
I would really like to have them as my account. Most likeley they are
incontrol of the process and the numbers and they sell to demand.
American business at its finest. JMHO.

I opened a box of these cards last night. The quality is just as good
    as the PS Platinum (hi gloss fronts and backs).  I got five insert cards;
four of these are the PHC cards (Parkhurst Collectible??) similar to
the PC collectibles in PS Platinum and one other card.

The PCH cards I got are:

    	PCH1 - Gordie Howe, Legend
PCH3 - Ken Hodge, Rookie Shooting Accuracy Leader
PCH4 - Robert Kron, Rookie Shorthanded Goals Leader
PCH5 - Sergei Fedorov, Rookie Shorthanded Goals Leader

The other card is a Santa Claus card. The Santa card looks to be Pro
Sets typical Santa Claus card, has no number on the back with the
PARKHURST logo on the front. Santa is seated at a desk looking over
cards with a magnifying glass with three elves placing cards and gifts
in a bag. Background is white on the front and back. Has anyone else
    seen this card???

There's a few things I like about this set:

    	1) All recently traded players are shown with their new team
(ex: Messier with the Rangers, Burridge with the Capitals,
Fuhr with the Maple Leafs, etc).

    	2) Most pictures of the original teams show them in the
    	    anniversary jersey.

    	3) Card numbers 220-225 show "Frequent All-Stars". These are
nice cards; they have an action shot of the player on
yellow background (similar to the '64 TOPPS Stand-ups).
Out of the six cards, three are Kings (Gretzgy, Kurri
and Luc Robitalie) along with Bourque, Roy and Coffey.

However I did purchase a few packs of cards at the Westboro show last
Sunday. I agree with you. I really like the cards.

Couple of questions on your set:

    	- How many cards are in series 1?
    	- Was there a checklist?
    	- Were you able to make a set from one box?
    	- If not, will you be willing to trade?

    >> How many cards are in series 1?

    	225 cards.

    >> Was there a checklist?

There isn't a checklist card. The checklist is available from Pro
Set using their normal method, by writing to them. Check out the
    	wrapper, address is listed there.

    >> Were you able to make a set from one box?

Almost completed sorting the cards. Will have a complete set
(minus a few cards which were damaged). Probably will be 50
cards or so short of second set. Would be interested in trading.
Let us know how many PCH cards you get...

Answers to your question (via my BIL):

    	- How many cards are in series 1?

The highest card that my BIL and Dan both got was #225, so assume
there's 225 cards in the first series. Anyone gotten a higher
    card?

He also got PCH1, 2, 3, and 5 (no 4), and Dan also got various
numbers from PCH1:5 -- anyone get 6 or above?

    	- Was there a checklist?

Nope. ProSet doesn't do checklists. The back of their wrappers
always say "write for your free checklist". All it is is a typed
sheet of paper listing the cards, not an actual card. This is their
way of getting their mailing list enlarged. Seriously.

    	- Were you able to make a set from one box?

My BIl fell one card (#122) shy of one set, and 43 shy of a second set.

    	- If not, will you be willing to trade?

Watch the WANTED (3.*) and TRADE (5.*) notes -- always people willing
    to trade.

opened a box last night. got one complete set and came about 30 cards
    short of a second set.

not bad distribution, I only got triples on about 12 cards, and the
triples I got were of value players ( ie. Jagr, Falloon, Hull )

    I also got PCH2 -> PHC5

I bought a few packs, and opened the first two, nothing much to write
home about, but I really liked the quality. Then I opened the third
pack. I got a Gretzky, Coffey (1,000 pt club), Lafontaine, and 3 Red
Wings, including Lidstrom, who goes for about $6 around here!!
Naturally, the Wings cards go for more in this area, but how much
is the Lidstrom card going for elsewhere? He looks like a
    bonifide candidate for ROY (IMO).

has anybody seen any recent box prices on Parkhurst at shows lately ?
also, are they scarce or abundent ?

    thanks
365.24probably somewhere in between scarce and abundentDDIF::TANCILLlong may you runMon Feb 24 1992 16:2716

I used to see them at $32-$35, now lately they are $40 or more.
The Feb 28th SCD has an interview with the president of ProSet
who says they produced 15,000 cases, numbered. First 2500 cases
are french, the rest english. He states they will continue this
practice of announcing the exact quantity and numbering the cases
for their other products in the future (except the base ProSet
product). Apparently this in reaction to the platinum fiasco.

So you could surmise that eventually Parkhurst will dry up and
presumably prices will rise, but I wouldn't exactly term 15,000
cases "scarce". 10 million plus packs if one assumes a 20 box case,
is it 12 per pack? That's almost 130 million cards.

    Amazing ...

Not only do they release these a month after the hockey season
ended (any stanley cup cards included guys? 8^), but there's a "final

You should be finishing off your '91 Parkhurst set round about
the time the '92-93 season starts ... 8^)

The final update set is mentioned on the back of the packs.
	I don't have any with me, but I think it was $5.99 + $2.50 s&h
for a total of $8.49. It said the set was 24 cards, including
Stanley Cup highlights. No wrappers or POP needed, but limited
to 2 per customer (right). So, now that they've established an
audience stupid enough to buy new hockey cards after the damn
season is over, they figure they can get us coming and going.
	Of course, they're absolutely correct.

I bought 3 boxes yesterday at BJ's (only one for me) and a friend
and I each opened our own. I got 3 PHC cards:

			PHC6 Brett Hull
			PHC7 Mario Lemieux
			PHC8 New York Rangers

I think there are another 5 altogether in this series, with 9 & 10
	being old-timers.

My friend got NONE in his box and was, needless to say, PISSED!

Neither of us got any other special inserts, a la Saint Nick.

When my BIL calls me and lets me know how he made out with his box,
    I'll post here.

I only knew about the "final update" because he called me to tell
me -- he's livid, but he knew I'd get a big chuckle out of it.

Last time I saw a survey on this, I think hockey cards rated fifth
or sixth on the scale -- baseball is obviously first, football
second, basketball a distant third, and then I think racing cards,
non-sport cards, and hockey cards were all closely lumped together
    (there's a message in there somewhere! 8^).

For such a small audience, they sure did put out a TON of sets this
year. Youse guyz must be really dedicated.

more. Before it was just the French names (all this time I thought it
was Roy as in Roy Karlson) you'd have trouble with, now it's Russians,
Czechs, etc. Same thing with soccer.

Well, my BIL got three PCH* cards in his box (6, 7, 8 - Hull,
Lemieux, and the "President's Trophy"), and no special/unnumbered
    cards.

He hasn't finished sorting, so don't know how the decollation was.
365.40Some damaged cards too...AWECIM::MCAULIFFEThu Jun 25 1992 13:5713
I got four PHC cards in my box:

    	PHC6 - Hull
    	PHC7 - Lemieux
    	PHC8 - President's Trophy
    	PHC9 (or PHC10??) Terry Sawchuck

It's interesting that all of the old PHC cards seem to deal with
the Red Wings (Howe, Delvecchio (sp??), Sawchuck and ??). I wonder
who the last one is?? Berenson?? Unger?? Dionne??

Well, I broke down my box and failed to get a full set (225) out
of 432 cards. I'm missing 15 cards entirely and got singletons
of 22 cards. I also received 7 triples and 12 quadruples.

One thing I noticed was that there were packs that were very
similar in contents located on the same level, so that I tended
to get all of a particular card on one level. So I suggest that
if you buy single packs that you grab them downward. Also, I got
	my 3 PHC cards at levels 6, 8, & 9 (out of 9).

    Anyone actually seen/gotten a PHC-10 card?

A dealer this weekend told me that there were only 4 additional PHC
cards inthe second series (PHC6-PHC9), and knowing how reliable they
are, I'm trying to verify this information. 8^)

$8.50 seems high, but on the other hand think how much it costs Digital
    to process an order...

I bet we couldn't do it for that price?

    RE:PHC10 in Parkie II

According to several different dealers at a recent Ottawa, Ont. show,
the answer is: No there is not a PHC10.

Now that the 92/93 Hockey season has begun and there's talk of this
year's Parkhurst coming out in December, I was wondering if anybody had
ever sent in for last year's final update set. I was going to, but
then the bankruptcy news came out. Now that ProSet seems to be
somewhat stabilized, I'm thinking of doing it again. Do you think it's
too late now? If you did receive one, was it worth it?

I spoke to Proset a few weeks ago. They said they would be doing that
Parkhurst update set. Their priorities were ProSet Hockey and
    Football, then Parkhurst.

They haven't cashed the check I sent them, so anything is possible.
However, when you are dealing with a company in bankruptcy, who knows!

Has anyone heard what the Cherry picks in the 93 series 2 are going
for and who is in the set? I got 2 of them and the recent Becketts
didn't list them although they listed the regular cards and the
    parkie reprints.
