359.1Fleer should be out.DNEAST::WOODMAN_MIKEThu Jan 09 1992 22:523
Fleer should be out there now, my dealer was expecting some in this
afternoon. He orders direct from the factory, and they were suppose to
    arrive at his shop today.

For those of you that will be looking for the Roger Clemens
signed cards, so you can turn around and sell them for $950,
will be sorry to hear that the chance of getting one is 1 in
    35,000. 8^))

Be careful with this set. I picked up a box yesterday and the whole
box was cut wrong. The Clemen card was a disgrace. I will be calling
Fleer Monaday the 20th to see what they will do for me. I also got 4
gold cards in the box, and they are of littlte if any value due to the
    cut.

I just sent a full box of cards back to them,1991 Ultra Football.
you should of seen the junk that I got, thecard is supposed to measure
3.500" in height, the ones in the box were 3.400",i'd say tha about
85% were cut to short,I called and complained to the (Fleer) them.

here is the address to send them to:
                                        Fleer Corp.

Great distribution of the regular issue cards. Clemens and All-Star
cards are going to be hard to put together. Here's a brake down of
    the box I bought.

Here's a breakdown of the box I bought in Dallas.

    Regular Issue 001-680 Find 498 Doubles 68
    			Including Prospects

    Record Setters 681-687 Find 2 of 6
    League Leaders 688-697 Find 9 of 10
    Super Stars 698-707 Find 9 of 10
Special Cads (Nolan etc)	708-713 Find 3 of 6
    Checklists 714-720 Find 2 of 7

    Clemens Find 3
    All Star Find 2

A total of 546 cards out of 720 cards for a 75.8%. Looks like pretty
good distribution to me. Has anyone complete a set from boxes? How
many boxes to complete one? Used to be able to get one set from 2
    boxes.
359.10Rookie SensationsPHAROS::MATOSThu Jan 30 1992 11:556
I saw the rookie sensations yesterday, they look sharp. The
dealer had a Frank Thomas rookie sensation for $16 but wasn't
Franks rookie year in 90, seems like they are really milking
Frank Thomas, he'll be a rookie for the next 5 years.

Are these cards gonna be worth the money? I bought a box at BJ's
and haven't figured out if I should try to sell it or use it in trade
or open them and figure out what I have.

Apparently there is not too many rookie sensations per cello box,
like john mentioned these are going to be tough to complete. I'll
try and get some specific numbers on rookie sensations per cello
box. Let us know if you open yours.

359.16Fleer 1992 16337::HAYESFri Jan 31 1992 11:179
As for the distribution of rookie sensations, I opened two cello
boxes. In the first I got 6 rookie sensations and 2 Clemens cards.
In the second 5 RS's and 3 Clemens. The distribution of the other
cards was not good. I didn't complete a set out of over 1600 cards!

Fortunately the 5 Clemens were all differnet. There was one duplication
of a rookie sensation (Brian McRae). The quality was good. I had got
an all star from a wax pack that was severly miscut. If anyone finds
out if Fleer will stand behind their "quality", please let us know.

    More on distribution:

I have found two partial boxes @ srp of $1.99/each. The first box was
    missing 4 packs, of the 20 I opened I got: 2 clemens & 4 rookie
sensations (including one dup). Second box had just 1 pack gone,
I got: 3 clemens & 6 rookie sensations (no dups). fwiw, I got
no all-stars in either partial box of cellos.

Jeff, Rookie Sensation sets are going to be hard to complete.
The best bet would be to wait and see if the sets come down
from $80. Ya, thats right, I saw a set this morning at the show
for $80. And he wasn't moving. Saw a Thomas card going for
    $20

ANYONE seeing a set for $40 or under, Pick me one up. Everyone
    knows I'm good for it.....8^)

    Good Luck!

I saw these at a local 7-11 for .99 a pack, and bought one to see what
they were like. Got a Tony Gwynn All-Star; It's kind've neat.

You guys think I should buy the rest of the box they had?

    Thanks.

Goes to show you how out of touch I am with this new stuff. I haven't
really been paying attention to it for a couple of years. These Fleer
cards look pretty, though. Maybe I'll check out Costco tonight and see
    if they have any.

I went to Costco and got their last box for $21.99, or about .61 a
pack. As was stated earlier in this note, the distribution was really
good. Out of the 612 cards in the box, I got 563 different, and 49
duplicates. No triples. As soon as I finish listing them, I'll post a
note to trade for the 157 missing ones.

In the box, I got 1 Clemens (No.5) highlight card, and 4 different
    All-Stars.

One favorable side to the insert craze will be hand collated sets
of 1-720 will be going very cheap. The first listing in Beckett
the set is at $30 (high). Someone who hasn't started a set yet but
might be interested in picking up what is a pretty nice card from Fleer,
can probably get a full set for $15 or less. All the folks ripping
open product to get the inserts will be looking to unload the regular
cards cheap, bonus for the average consumer or gift giver.

    Re: .17

According to the order literature my dealer showed me, the inserts
    are as follows:

Wax packs: Clemens cards, All-Star cards, Autographed Clemens cards
    		(Really Random!!)
    Rack packs: Team leaders
    Cello packs: Rookie sensations

Over here on the west coast, a Frank Thomas Rookie Sensation card is
going for an average cost of, hold on to your seats.....

I received my 3 special Clemens cards in the mail over the weekend.
There numbered 13,14 and 15. The cards continue to demonstrate
	Fleer's pursuit for excellence. 8^)

The #14 card couldn't fit in the plastic card box I have the
rest of the set in. Damn card was cut to big... Super quality
	control!

latest rumor here in Albq is that Fleer has done it again, they have
gone back to the presses on the rookie sensations and are shipping
new cello cases as I write this. A prominent dealer here has been
buying stock for his new shop and says he knows of 163 cases here
alone. He said he could of bought boxes at $42 a box but feels the
sensation set will drop to $100 by mid summer.

See what you guys can shake out,

    Jim
PS. If anyone knows a dealer who was able to get some from the factory,
and then was told they were sold out when he tried to reorder, well
have him give them another call maybe the found somemore.

Around here in southern NH the folks who retail from the magazine
distributors have continually expected to get more Fleer jumbos
for a month and a half now. They keep saying that because there
wholesaler keeps saying that, because fleer is telling them to
expect more (i.e. 2nd printing). I had more than a few dealers
with these last weekend tell there will be no second printing, all
that talk of a second printing is wrong. Not. One grocery store
guy told me yes they were still going to get some, yes fleer was
doing a second print, BUT, this second printing would be "limited"
also. To quote roy: 'Bwah ah ah ah ah'.

The packs will still sell well at $1.99, interesting thing is the
other day I saw some packs with only 25 instead of 35 cards per
cello. Perhaps the second printing means 10 less cards per cello
for the same price. Go figure.

Latest issue of Baseball Weekly (Tartabull/Bonilla cover) had an
advertisement from Fleer. Send in 10 wrappers and 1$ and you can
get an uncut 8.5 X 11 sheet of all 20 Rookie Sensations. The
sheet shown had 10 on one side so I take it the flip side had
the other 10 which means there are probably no backs. It looks
like there will be 250,000 sheets.

The "no way Fleer won't do a 2nd printing" of the cellos has
started to appear. If you are interested in packs @ 1.99 check
with any of the grocery/convienence stores where you saw the cellos
before, they might be getting some more today or very soon.

The latest Beckett's has the 1992 Fleer Update Set at 50$ with an Up
Arrow. An article in SCD had Fleer saying they printed less of these
than their 1984 Fleer Update. Of course there's no Clemens or Puckett
in the 1992 Update and chances are all the players probably have a
card out from some other previous set anyway.
