349.0. "Seahawk Hunt help requested" by GUCCI::EWISE (Pobodys Nerfect) Tue Nov 12 1991 13:54

I am trying to get all Seattle Seahawk football cards.
    1977 to date.

Ok so what is the point of this nuts note you say?

How can I find out what cards I need?

How many cards were in the Tops 77 set with Seahawks?
How many were in the 90 Action Packed? ect...

    	 Any help out their?

Anyone willing to give up their common Seahawks?

I will buy the non-common cards.

How should I post a note asking for these cards, list the ones
I have and hope for the best?

How about asking for the ones I don't have, I don't know which ones
    I don't have!

> How can I find out what cards I need?

There is a book put out by Beckett Publications that lists the
cards for each team for several years. To find out more, pick
up a copy of the latest Beckett football magazine and it is
sure to have ordering information in there. This will then
help you determine which ones you need.

If you are interested in the cards from update sets, I have
several of the 89's and 90's update sets from which I pulled the
Giants cards, since it is hard to buy these individually. If
you or others are interested in any of the remaining cards, let
    me know.

Don't do this. This information is not complete.

As you know, I collect all SD Charger cards, and it's my recommendation
that you spend the money and purchase the big Becketts book. I think
the current one is #8. It's the only complete source. Then go
through, year by year and mark all the players you think are
Seachickens. Then go to your local store and check them out.

The reason the Beckett's team checklist book doesn't work is that it
doesn't put in unusual cards (Fleer team action, or Swell hall of fame
or Fleer Stars 'n Stripes) and doesn't put in cards that fit your wish
but aren't exactly regular (1000 yard club, record breaker [early Topps],
    Topps Super, etc.)

I'll send my Charger checklist to you and at least you can use that as
a template, but first you must decide what EXACTLY you will collect.

For example, I want to have 1 of every Charger card made, given the
    following constraints:

    	* I won't collect regional cards (I'm not interested in cards on
the sides of milk cartons distributed only in Southern California, or
cards in Potatoe Chip bags distributed only in So Calif). They must
    be nationally distributed.

    	* I won't collect cards from other countries. Topps has United
    Kingdom cards. I'm not interested.

    	* I won't collect promotional cards. I'm not interested in
UpperDeck/Dominoes QB cards, or Topps/Coke cards, or Post cereal cards,
    etc.

    	* I collect only regular issue cards. It's not MANDATORY for me
to have the Action Packed Marion Butts 24K Gold card. I have the
Action Packed Marion Butts card, but it's not 24K, and I don't care.
That's outside the realm of my collection requirements. If I come
across it, I'll pick it up, but I don't put it on my "missing card
    list".

    	* What about error cards? Do you want to collect Seachicken error
cards? I approach this like this. I collect Charger error cards, and
then I want the corrected one as well. Same thing with Autographed
cards. If I have them autographed (and I have alot, Sid Gillman, Ron
Mix, Lance Alworth, Charlie Joiner, etc) then I also get another card,
unsigned. I'm not sure why I do it this way, but I do.

Lastly, don't subscribe to Beckett's Monthly Football, it doesn't
provide, IMHO, the necessary checklists needed for upcoming sets. SCD
does and I subscribe to that. For example, in one of the few last
SCDs, their was a checklist for Topps Stadium Football cards. I went
through that checklist, picked out the Chargers, added them to my
missing cards list and am already on the prowl for them. Becketts I've
found doesn't give me the checklists I need AHEAD of time. That's when
    I need it.

If you want more help....let me know. I don't know if I do it right,
but I can tell you how I do it.

You have to be careful with those team sets. Sometimes they include
key cards, rookie cards, league leader cards, team cards, etc.,
and a lot of times they DON'T.

You should have been me when I lived in San Diego, Denver, and
Oakland. I was Still a active Seahawks fan. Oakland was the touchiest!

Now just to keep it up I support the Redskins in Dallas :^)

I services the 49'ers camp a couple of times, my car had a
Seahhawks sticker on it, I had a Seahawk pin on my jacket, and my pager
had a Seahawk sticker on it.

On the secone trip this short guy, about my size, came up to me and
said "You must realy like th Seahawks!", after a short conversation that
came down to "I like people who support their teams, and don't change their
loyalties", and got 2 50 yard line tickets to a 49'ers and Seahawks
preseason game. It was Eddie DeBartalo (sp?)

    Eric,

Over the last couple of years I've been working on collcting all of the
Cleveland Brown cards and I have three suggestions to share.

    1) I agree with Glenn ... decide ahead of time (or after seeing a few
samples) exactly what you want to collect ... which brands, regional
       sets, special issues, etc.

    2) I used the following guide book ... "Sports Americana: Football,
Hockey, Bsskeball and Boxing Card Proce Guide" by Dr. Beckett. I
purchased it from Den's Collectibles (301) 776-3900. This guide
does list the team beside each player listed in the football section
(at least the 1989 version did). Interestingly the hockey section
does not share this attribute. The guide lists all major brands and
a lot of regional and speciality sets also.

    3) My main football card dealer has been;
    		Pat's Coins and Cards
    		3229 West 24th Street
    		Erie, PA 16506
    		(814) 833-0566

        I like Pat's for two main reasons ... 1) they give a 10-20% off
Beckett prices and 2) the selction is great. They have
had every Brown card since 1968 except for 1 (they were out of
        Kosar rookies).

    Good Luck,
    Greg
