336.0. "Japanese Baseball Fans?" by 6069::MARTEL () Wed Oct 30 1991 13:49

	Who's the leading batter on the Seibu Lions? What team does
        Ishige play for? What team did Cecil Fielder play for in Japan? What
	team is ex-Red Sox Mike Marshall going to play for? Who are the league
	leaders?

	I'm curious to find out if anyone follows Japanese baseball or
        collects Japanese baseball cards?

        Baseball card collecting is still "just for kids" in Japan and I've
        only found one card manufacturer.

        There are 12 teams in the league- and the cards are fairly nice. I
	brought several packs back from a recent trip if anyone is interested
	in a "novelty pack". If you're interested in a pack, send mail.

    I've got a set of cards for 2 teams. They were plastic, not cardboard.
    About the same size you're talking about. Is this the same thing?

    THose sound right. The one's I've seen kind of look like credit cards.
    So, can anyone get me a set of Tokyo Giants? 8^)

    Actually, I was in Japan at the beginning of the month for two
    weeks. During my stay, I was determined to find baseball cards
    to bring back with me. To my surprise, I couldn't find any in
    the stores and I was told that it was the end of the season and
    the stores had been sold out for weeks.

    During my shopping time, I looked for a card shop but I only
    came across a collectors shop. In the store they had coins and
    ninja stars and other stuff. At the back of the shop I saw a
    rack of cards on display and said "Finally."

    So I proceed back to the rack only to find that the cards are
    actually Girl Trading cards. Thats right, pictures of beautiful
    women and what appeared to be a phone number. I was going to
    buy one but the cheapest card I could find was more than $10.

    What a shock...

336.6Finding cards in Japan....SUBMRN::MARTELThu Oct 31 1991 11:1813
	There is a Seibu Lions baseball team store in the Sunshine 60
	Plaza in Ikebukuro, for those who travel to DEC-Japan. It's
	on the first floor near the entrance to the Sunshine Prince Hotel.

        Of course, the merchandise is all "Seibu Lions" but if you follow
        the team... it has everything.

        There is another store at the Tokyo Dome as well.

	Does anyone collect Japanse cards? Interested in trading? The most
	common cards I've found come 12 to a set, and seem to be widely
	available.
