313.0. "Walt Disney trading cards" by FRAGLE::GUTIERREZ (Who's on 1st.. What's on 2nd..) Sun Sep 15 1991 17:32

The new Walt Disney trading cards are out, and they are made by
Impel, the same company that put out T2 and Marvel II trading cards.
Yeah, I know some of you guys don't care for this type of trading
cards, but I like them, and that's all I care about. If you don't
like them, don't buy them, and I don't want't to hear your rumble.
This note is for those who care for them.

The cards are of excellent quality stock, and the set is broken down
into 3 categories: Favorite Stories, Family Portraits, and World Tour.
The set is designed with the 9 pocket plastic pages in mind, each
story of the Favorite Stories category fits into one plastic page.
	The front is labelled A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, and the backs of
these cards are numbered 1 thru 9 with pictures in the front and
back. This category contains 11 different stories (cards 1-99).

The Family Portraits category (cards 100-171) have pictures only in
the front, and the backs have a smaller picture of the character, and
	some information about it.

The World Tour category (cards 172-210) also have pictures in the front
only, and the backs are like the back of postcards. There is one
checklist for each category. None of the checklists mention anything
about Holograms, but I opened one box, and found a Mickey Mouse
	Hologram.

The unique thing about this Hologram is that it's a double Hologram,
by that I mean the front and the back are both a Hologram. The front
of the Hologram I found shows Mickey waving, and the back shows the
back view of Mickey waving. In other words, it's like the front view
and the back view of the same picture.

That's all folks.... oops, sorry, wrong cartoon.

313.3I got it at SPAG'sFRAGLE::GUTIERREZWho's on 1st.. What's on 2nd..Mon Sep 16 1991 11:006

I bought my box at SPAG's for $22. I also saw at the card show
yesterday another Walt Disney entry, it's called Minnie and Me,
and it comes in a pink box. It only has Minnie cards, and the
box was being sold for $15.
313.4UpperDeck has a limited set!CECV03::HEMONDMon Sep 16 1991 17:2518
We got our box of Walt Disney (IMPEL) at a card show for $25.00.
No Holograms, but we were able to make 2 complete sets and approx.
    2/3rds of a 3rd set.

Also bought 2 packs of the Minnie & Me to check out. Found all
sequence of #6 in one pack (6, 16, 26, etc.) and sequence #1 in
    the other.

UpperDeck has a set out, supposedly limited edition (50,000 sets).
Saw the advertisement in a Baseball News magazine, $75.00 for the
set and you get a one day pass at Disney World worth $29.95. There
was a discount offered if you bought 10 sets or more. As we are
to go to Florida this winter and can use the ticket, I will probably
send for the set (beats waiting for the dealers to get them in, IF
they do!). If anyone wants the info for the UpperDeck set, contact
    me at this node.

The dealers will not get those sets in.

Those sets were given out at the National, as one of UD's
    promo items.

ps: And I was pretty sure I'd seen them for a lot less than $75.00
(my new SCD is hopefully sitting in my PO Box today, will try
        and let you know tomorrow)

hey great we reached a whole 4 people interested.

Common' guys would you rather collect a bunch of baseball cards
from 37 different companies that will be worth less than you paid
in ten years because they shipped 100,000,000,000 of the damn things
and everyone and thier brother are collecting them.

50,000 is a pretty limited amount.

That latest TS said that they've been running 7 to 8 holograms
a case. Which is about one every 2.5 boxes.

    Hardly $150 material.

Oh yeah, that's right. BTW, in that case, the Hoops CC card is
    going for $50.

Don't even mention that you get one in every box, and you can buy
4 boxes for that price. That's being logical, and this is after
all, a (bwah ha ha ha ha ha ha) HOBBY.

In reguards to the Hoops cc1 card, I must have bad luck because
I've opened two boxes and have brought about half of another one
    and still no cc1 card.

Mike, I appreciate the sacrifice your making buy leting it go
for 50$ but, You should hold on to it because it should hit
the 150$ mark soon and you can really make a killing.

313.26Sorcerer's apprentice Hologram talkSTUDIO::GUTIERREZWho's on 1st.. What's on 2nd..Mon Oct 28 1991 10:1732
At a card show last weekend, a dealer had the Walt Disney
Sorcerer's apprentice Hologram, I picked it up and looked at it,
it had a couple of scratches at the bottom, and there was a small
paper bulge on the right edge, and there was a price tag of $75 on
	it. Here is what transpired

DLR: That's the new Walt Disney Hologram, very nice, uh?
ME: That's a lot of money for a Hologram.

DLR: It's very rare, I have seen it listed for $100.
Do you want to buy it ?.
ME: Oh, no, that's too much money.

DLR: I can sell it to you for $60, it's a very rare Hologram.
ME: That is still too much money for a Hologram.

DLR: Well, if you want it, I can sell it to you for $50.
ME: Oh, no, I wouldn't spend that much money on a Hologram.
Even if I saw it on sale for $20, I still wouldn't buy it.

DLR: No, I can't go down that low, that Hologram is listed for $100.
ME: I'm not asking you to bring down the price to $20, all I'm saying
is that even if someone else was selling it for $20, I still
wouldn't buy it. I still think that's too much to pay for it.

DLR: No, I'm sorry, I can't bring it down that low.

It wasn't my intention to talk him down to $20, but he thought that's
exactly what I was trying to do. I thought it was interesting how
	some of the dealer's think.

              JUAN,

Anytime something like that comes out some dealer will
always try to make a killing by hyping it before anyone really knows
what the real situation is. I remember when the UD Henry Aaron holos
first came out some dealer wanted $100 for it, and it was advertised
in the SCD for $50, now look at it.

I have seen a set of promo Upper Deck Disney cards at various card
shows. Does anyone have any idea when these are going to be out on
    the shelves?

313.30Don't think it's going to hit the shelves...STUDIO::GUTIERREZWho's on 1st.. What's on 2nd..Tue Dec 03 1991 16:478

The way I understand it, correct me if I'm wrong, anyone, is that
the 5 card promo set you are talking about were given out to anyone
who attended the convention, mostly dealers, and it's not going to
    	be available to the public.

There are ads in SCD and other publications where you can buy the
set for $25 without the Disneyland ticket.

I don't believe UD is doing Disney cards. Least not so far as I've
heard. I believe Impel has the license for the Walt Disney stuff,
    ProSet for Little Mermaid.

No idea who'll be doing Beauty & The Saint, er I mean, the Beast,
but you can be sure someone will be ...
313.33Let me check.....SDOCS1::MONDARESThu Dec 05 1991 21:1615
    re: -1

I'm pretty sure UD is supposed to release a set of Disney cards. I
can't remember which magazine, SCD or Tuff Stuff or any of the trading
card publications, but I think UD is supposed to have them out on the
market by the Jan-March '92 timeframe. It's possible that there will
be Holos randomly inserted in the packs and I'm pretty sure that a
special "Lifetime Pass" for the Disney parks will also be randomly
    inserted.

I'll check my mags for info and will post later.......

    re: -1

The Upper Deck Disney card set was a Promotional Give-Away at the
National Card show this past July in Anaheim, California. You could
only get this set if you attended the four day show.
The 5 card set can be bought at card shows for prices ranging from
$13-$30. It's a nice set of cards, just pick up a Tuff Stuff or
SCD and you should be able to find it advertised from many different
    dealers.
