I purchased a few packs tonight at a local gas station, .60/pack,
full boarderless picture photo fronts with color headshots on back.
They look rather nice and it maybe my imagination, but it appears
that the card stock maybe slightly better than previous ProSet issues.
I noticed only one or two frayed sides, contrasted with the football in
which several cards a pack have choppy boarders.

In each of the two packs I got one Hockey hall of fame and museum subset
cards which have a simiulated faded b&w photo look. Nice cards, even
if ProSet might just be a bit early, football in april and now hockey
    in early august, sigh.

Actually Jeff, ProSet had intented to have their Hockey out in early
    JULY, rather than early AUGUST.

And I did see some at a show in early July, but the dealer wanted
    $19/box ...

So far as I can tell, there's 345 in Series 1, plus two "special

There are four "Collectible" >CC#< cards in the first series. I got Falloon,
CC3, and "The Mask",CC4 in a box.

I got a whole set minus two cards in a box, thats pretty good distribution in
my book.

Pro-Set Hockey cards aren't to bad, but they chip very easily on the
sides. Maybe they need to sharpen the blade. Last years set and their
Desert Storm cards chipped also. I'm surprised that they didn't
overcome the problem. Not bad, but nothing to write home about.

Oops, you're right on that CC# .Right on that subset. Really interesting
information and good old photos. Amazing they didn't get "really" hurt playing
in the older uniforms/pads/etc.
If I ever make it to Toronto, I'll definitely have to get to the Hockey Hall
of Fame.

The four CC cards in 91-92 Pro Set Hockey Series I for those who
are wondering:

CC1 - NHL draft - taken from high up in the stands.
CC2 - Patrick Roy's face mask
CC3 - Pat Falloon
CC4 - Scott Niedermayer

Also note of course that there is no Lindros card in this set...since he hasn't
signed with a team yet. Score still has exclusive rights.

Just finished collating a box late last night and am missing only 4 cards
if I recall. Got the CC2 card (Roy's mask).

I've yet to scratch the 36 game pieces...anyone win anything?

Dan

at number 1 of course).

    re: Lindros

That's right. Eric wanted to make a buck or two so he signed
an exlusive marketing agreement with Score last year. That
allow Score to print his Hockey and Baseball cards until he
signs a Pro Contract. Once he is a member of the NHL then its
open business for the other companies to print his cards.

296.18Cons against ProSet '91USRCV1::SAPPBThu Aug 22 1991 11:418
I purchased a box yesterday for $15 and was shocked that I recieved
about 10 duplicate packs(packs identical card for card to a previous
pack in the box) and the one "CC" card I got (mask) has an edge on it
which looks like it was cut with a lawn mower. Needless to say, I need
about 50 or so cards to finish the set. I'm not having the same luck
with them that I had with O-Pee-Chee Premier (2 Fedorov & 2 Hull in 3
packs). I've had it with these bozos and am going to sit tight for
    Score & Upper Deck.
296.19What are top cards going for?USRCV1::SAPPBWed Sep 04 1991 12:288
Has anyone seen what dealers are charging for the top cards in this set
(especially the CC cards)? I haven't been to a shop or a show in a
while and what Beckett's says and what dealers ask are often worlds
apart. I hope to hit a flea market this weekend.

(I was able to salvage the situation in 296.18 by trading all my
doubles for the ones I needed AND a pair of hockey pants. It wasn't as
bad as I originally thought, there are only 345 cards in the set.)
296.21HOLY COW!!!!!!USRCV1::SAPPBWed Sep 04 1991 17:2310
I have no problem with not getting the entire set out of a box, it's a
long shot no matter what your sport or company. I don't enjoy getting
two packs that contain the EXACT cards in the exact order. I got this
about a dozen times in my box.
I also said some of my cards, including my sole CC card, had been
poorly cut. This was mention by others in this file.
I'm sure I only got a bad box. If I were to buy another box I would
probably get a better distribution of cards.

You know those 'scratch-n-win' game cards in each pack of the new
Pro-Set hockey... At a show in CT yesterday a guy at one table was
selling them for a quarter each! I couldn't believe it!

Actually, yes I can believe it...I remember thinking that someone
might do that, but to actually see it was still sort of a surprise.

Saw the Roy face mask card (CC1?) - asking was $6. The overhead draft
shot - asking was $5. (These special inserts don't really thrill me, so
I didn't bite.)

Cheers,
Dan

I was at a shop today where they had to Roy CC2 card
for approximately $2-$3. However, the same place had
a Pat Falloon CC3 card. I was all set to buy it and

I asked "What's the price on the Falloon CC card??".
    	  The guy said "Two fifty".
    	  I said "I'll take it."
He said "Thats two hundred and fifty".

Here's the scopp on CC3 and CC4. They were not supposed to be
released until series II. Some did get released in Series I
(a mistake? oh sure .....), but were pulled from production
shortly after this was noticed (oh yeah, right).

They, as far as I've been told, will be released in series 2.

Don't pay outrageous prices for these cards. Wait.

(Mayhap PS should sto pprinting cards "an hour after they design"
and spend a little time on QC ... works wonders).

Isn't it amazing that Pro-Set Hockey cards were picked as the sport
card of the National Hockey League? Although, I can believe that.
The league can't even get a major television contract so why not
go with the worst sport card in the marketplace. If anybody out
there is going to manufacture quality sport cards, watch what Pro-
Set does, and don't do it........Fred

shot-in-the-dark prices in this and the comic collecting business, but
this one deserves a speicial award!

I think we (noters) should all chip in and get a placque for this store
to display in their window denoting their leading position in the card
    collecting marketplace. Something like:

    		MOST UNBELIEVABLE PRICE AWARD

Ha! I like the idea Bill, but unfortunately I doubt Digital would

We could have little certificates made up, or perhaps even stickers
(the kind with PERMANENT glue) -- WINDOW STICKERS -- and place them
on windows and display cases, and ...

(this is all of course in jest, no one is to take this seriously, or

    I saw these two cards(CC3 + CC4) yesterday for $30, a slight improvement
but they'll be down to $5 or less when series II comes out and has to
compete with a dozen other hockey cards of higher quality.
In case anyone hasn't seen these cards yet, don't even waste the effort
of turning your head to catch a glimpse because they are the worst
looking cards in the set. The players are slumped on stools in front
of a white wall(picture taken at draft). yea, wow.
I hate myself because I'm a sucker for these CC cards and I know I'll
pick them up when the price comes down.
Don't bother me, I'm gonna go hang my head low and stand in the corner.

Bill, even a lowly CC-lover like yourself can be rehabilitated.

You must learn patience, persistence, and overall, the ability
    to just say NO.

If you take it one day at a time, and follow our patented 12-step
    program, you should be cured.

Step 1. Every time you are tempted to buy one of these over-hyped,
mass-produced, overly-expensive pieces of cardboard caca,
repeat OUT LOAD 100 times: "It's only cardboard".

Step 2. Look in the price guide at past issues to see if they have
retained the high prices charged for them.

Step 3. Leave your wallet at home. You'll find that after not being
ABLE to buy it, you won't be as upset as you thought you
    	     would be.

Step 4. Try trading with a fellow noter. Don't wait for him to peruse
his want-list, peruse his first. Tell him what you have that
he needs, and ask if by chance, he has an extra CC card laying
around. I've gotten quite a few of my CC cards this way
    	     myself.

Step 5. Buy a wax box. The money is much better spent, and you may
             get a CC card anyway!

Step 6. Get nostalgiac. Look at some really old cards. Say to your-
self "Geez, for that $30 they want for CC3, I can buy a nice
1970 Yaz, or a couple of Topps 1964 Supers".

Step 7. Take your wife, girlfriend, mother, most disdaining friend
along with you. Someone whose very likely to scoff LOUDLY
if they see you purchasing a piece of cardboard for $30.
    	     An ugly one at that.

Step 8. Give me your money. I'll do better things with it than spend
    	     it on a CC card.

Step 9. Give me some MORE of your money. This advice ain't cheap you know!

Step X. Begin smoking cigarettes. That excess money you wanted to
waste on a CC card will disappear so quick, you'll no longer
even consider buying the cards. Of course step X is a drastic
step, and may require additional fees for our other seminar
"how to quit smoking you foul-smelling thing you".

Step XI. How many of you didn't think I could count to 11, much less
come up with that many reasons? Me neither.

Step 12. Go to step 1.

I noticed that series 2 is out. I picked up a couple of packs to see
what they were like. As can be expexted, they are identical to series
    1. They only thing worth commenting on is that I got a Pat Falloon
regular card. I guess that they came to some arrangement because the
big huff over series 1 was that they made a CC card of him without his
permission. I wonder if they'll now release his CC in series 2.
I haven't heard or seen what the deal is with CC cards for series 2

Series II (English and French) are both available now.

270 card set (#346-615), with 5 additional CC cards (CC5-CC9).
Unfortunately, CC3 and CC4 aren't part of this series. Don't
fret, the prices ARE dropping on them tho' ...

The French edition is a numbered-case, 5,000 cases only
production, with up to 80% of the product slated for Canadien
dealers. But remember, they supposedly only produced 8,000 cases
of series I, and that eventually dropped to $8-12/box.

Personally, I think series II French is going to be a little harder
to find than other PS products. I haven't seen it yet at a show,
and BJ's only got one case.

Distribution is good (I and my BIL opened an English box, he opened
    a French box).

English: Both fell a couple cards (2 I blv) shy of one set,
and about 10-15 shy of a second set. 3 CC cards in

Oh yeah, the main reason I got into this note ... sheesh ...

ProSet is coming out with yet ANOTHER hockey product this year.
They've bought the rights to distribute a candy confection called
    "the puck".

Each "puck" will have 3 "puck" hockey cards in it, with the set of
"puck" cards consisting of 30 different cards.

The cards look just like regular ProSet from this year, except they
have the work "PUCK" in a batman type (zap! pow! wham!) graphic
    in the upper-right corner.

So let's see. Hockey sets from PS in 1991-92:

    Pro Set Series I
    Pro Set Series II
    Pro Set Series I (French)
    Pro Set Series II (French)
Pro Set Platinum I	(was there a french version of this?)
    Pro Set Platinum II
    Parkhurst I

By the Way, I told the candy is really great. My dealer, in W. Acton, got

afternoon. He is trying to get in several more cases of the stuff. If
anyone is interested, I'll let you know when he gets it.

Well, instead of gum to keep dentists in business, we continue to have
    candy.

This might be a great trivia question:

How many different types of candy had cards in them? By the way, I'm
    not sure of the answer.

Or how many candy bars have been named after famous athletes?

Nobody's said nothing about THE PUCK ?!?

Proset's latest assult on our wallets, teeth and waistline is the
PUCK. Its a round candy bar shaped like a puck (duh) and it comes with
3 cards, similar to this years proset regular hockey cards. They are
going for .75-->$1.00 and there are 30 cards in the set.

I bought 3 pucks for the cards, ate one puck and knew right then and
there this was one set I was going to have to live without.I can't get

I thought I had mentioned Puck elsewhere. Maybe it just got
    overlooked.

I too have eaten my first, and believe me, my last "Puck".

But I've met people who LOVE the things. *Ugh*.

There are 30 cards, but I'll bet before long, there are another
30 (no telling if they'll also be numbered #1-30, but one would
    hope they'd be numbered 31-60).

I would think that ProSet's intention here is to sell the candy.
They already have enough card sets out there that I don't believe
their main thrust is the cards. The cards are being used to entice
people into buying the candy bar.

As such, I'm sure they don't care how many cards they produce. I don't
doubt that once this candy bar leaves the test markets and goes to
national distribution that these cards will be every where. As it is
now, I've yet to see them in a store, only at card shows.

I've seen complete sets for $15-20 Bill, so maybe that's the way
    to go.

This type of product is the whole reason for trading cards in the first
place, so I'm told. The manufacturers wanted to sell gum, so they
cards as a way to sell more.

Anyway, just thought I'd share an opposite point of view.

    Come on, Pucks Series II...

    Regards,
    Denny

Not surprising ... While the Platinum products weren't bad and the
Parkhurst set was the best hockey set (IMHO), the rest of their
stuff was pretty boring and they didn't do baseball cards. I know
Impel (now SkyBox) had their troubles (how many series of Marvel
Comics can you do anyway) and their new football cards are nothing
to write home about, although they do have the Quarterback Club in
it. I wonder how many more companies will fold.

Here's some confirmation from Dallas. ProSet did infact declare
Chapter 11 yesterday. They have, or will be, laying off 50% of their
work force. I don't remember how many that was but it's mostly in
their administrative offices. Their printing operations have been
reduced but not to the extent of admin. The reasons they are giving
are mis-management of assets and the extravagant nature of the founder.

If I remember, I will dig out the article from yesterday's paper.

I've vowed not to buy Pro-Set hockey cards any longer, not
even Parkhurst. They still have a problem with chipping
along their edges and that even includes their top of the
line cards like Parkhurst. As far as I'm concerned, they
make the worst set of all card makers......

I have seen boxes of Pro Set football and Hockey at
the Keybee stores for $6 - $7, and they have tons
of them, they just sit there and they don't sell.
