    I believe it's a 550 card set MIke. I also believe they plan on
    putting out an update set later this year.

    It's the same design that they used on the 1991 Sr. League cards,
    except the backs are diagonal. Ultra-UV glossy finish, etc.

    Pre-orders I've seen in SCD have ranged from $16.95 (for 6 sets)
    upwards of $24.95 (what this particular dealer was charging for ALL
    of this year's football sets).

282.2Pretty Nice CardsWMOIS::WAITT_DMon Jul 15 1991 16:4620

    I bought some foil packs this weekend @.75 ea. I then went to a flea
    market and found them @1.00 ea. I went back to the store in Fitchburg
    and bought the remaining whole foil box and what was left in the open
    foil box. I paid $25.00 for the unopened box and .75 ea without the tax
    for the remaining 20 foil packs.

    The cards are very nice but I've opened about 20 foil packs and found
    about 8-10 cards that were destroyed. Ie.. gloss cracked across the
    front of the card, blotchy gloss(bubbly?), and cards that are dented.
    I called Pacific trading card company and they said to send them in
    but if there were more than 8-10 cards all they could send me in return
    were foil packs.

    If anyone would like the number its (206)774-8473. When I open all the
    packs and return them I'll let everyone know how fast the response was.

    All in all the cards are very nice!!

282.3Pacific FB distribution..SALEM::POTUCEKEARTHDAY=EverydayMon Jul 22 1991 13:2210

I picked up a box Saturday. Got about 425 of the 550 from one box. Mostly
doubles and one or two triples, but it looks like a pretty good distribution.

DID get two Maryland's, though, and most of the "Rookies".

No gloss troubles, but a few corners. Overall, not too bad.

282.4YAGS (yet another gold subset)DDIF::TANCILLlong may you runFri Aug 02 1991 03:389

    Has anyone hit any gold "Pacific picks the pros" cards? I happened
    upon one in the second box I opened, none in the first. The card
    is #20 Charles Haley of the 49ers. There is no #20 listed in the
    current beckett's, seems like we have yet another gold card subset,
    anybody have any others? how many in all?

282.5scoop on gold subsetDDIF::TANCILLlong may you runFri Aug 02 1991 16:2513

    An ad in SCD gives the low down on the gold subset in pacific:

    'Randomly inserted in the Pacific will be 20 Pacific Pro Picks gold
    foil cards. These will be numbered 1 through 20 and will have a
    slightly different design than the full set. Big name players such
    as Joe Montana will be among the 20. Only 10,000 of each of the
    Pacific Pro Picks cards have been produced.'

    Collecting this subset could make fleer PV look pretty simple.

282.6I have 2 gold CardsEBBCLU::MONDALTOMon Aug 12 1991 16:2710
    I just opened 2 boxes,and got one in each box. The player is
    Sean Landeta,and the number behind the card is #25,I'd be willing
    to trade one of them for another Gold card. If there was only 10,000
    of them made,shouldn't they have that info on the back of the cards.

    All I know about them is what I read (and typed in from SCD). If
    you got #25, then the ad is already wrong on one count. I have
    only seen one of them, Jerry Ball, at a show and the same card
    at a card store. Neither person knew any details on them, but
    they pulled prices out of the air ($45 and $50!). I have opened
    4 boxes and gotten just the one gold card, Charles Haley (#20),
    linebacker for the 49ers.

    I saw something on these in the latest SCD.

    There are x number of "gold" cards, and x number of "silver"
    cards (I believe x was 25). They are the same 25 for the silver
    and the gold versions.

    There are 10,000 of each card, meaning there are 500,000 of them
    in existence (this number was confirmed by Pacific).

    If the production numbers being bandied about (22,000 total cases),
    are anywhere near true, that means there are approximately ...
    22 per case, or just a shade over one per wax box.

    Since some percentage of those 22,000 cases were undoubtedly factory sets,
    that would mean there are even more per wax box.

    This makes them even less rare than the ProSet insert cards (average:
    1 for every 3 wax boxes), but slightly more rare than Pro Vision cards
    from Fleer.

    Those are only going for a buck or two apiece. As are a lot of the
    Leaf gold rookies.

    $40 or $50 is outrageous.

282.9bogus luck?DDIF::TANCILLlong may you runTue Aug 13 1991 14:128

    I don't believe the 22,000 cases number, so I think your resultant
    conclusion of more than 1 per box may be wrong. Certainly the
    experience I have had and others who I have spoken to, does not
    bear this out. Maybe I just have bad luck, has anyone else opened
    boxes of pacific? and found any gold or silvers?

    Au contriare Jeff -- not wrong, just inaccurate.

    I can only go by the data provided me.

    And a major advertiser in SCD continually runs his ad with that
    22,000 figure. What? You mean there's no such thing as "truth
    in advertising" in the sports memorabilia world?

    I'm aghast ...

    Based on my inside information about the actual number of cases
    produced, there should be 10 checklists per box/ 200 per case.
    So don't buy these from roy, I can give you a better deal.

    Pacific Plus Football II is out, saw them this weekend at a show for
    $35/box. Evidently the price per box to the dealers has nearly doubled
    (factory price) as compared with series I. Supposed to be alot less
    series II printed than I (sure Pacific), 110 card high number set, the
    packs are all high numbers (at least they got one thing right). Also
    the series in available as a set, saw these for $15 each.

    I'm under the impression that there are 2 Chargers in the 110 card
    Pacific Flash Card Set:

    		#97	Gary Plummer
    		#98	Leslie O'Neal

    Can someone confirm this for me. Does someone out there have the
    entire 110 card set?

    Live from Charger Central.......Glenn
