281.0. "1991 Fleer Football" by CECV03::LERRA () Wed Jun 26 1991 17:23

Did I miss the note regarding '91 FLEER football cards? or is this the
    first time they've been mentioned?
I bought a few packs the other night at (at CVS, for $.50/pack) and I
don't care for them. Green has never been my favorite color! I was also
very disappointed to see that they have managed to seal the wax against
    the FRONT of a card!
All in all...I liked last year's issue much better...

I have to agree, not very attractive fronts, the solid color
backgrounds just don't look very appealing to the eye. You
gotta wonder who approved these as the design to go with, Score
football is a much nicer looking card, heck even Pro Set is nicer
    looking.

They have the Pro Vision and all pro subsets, the all pro cards
are more attractive then the regular ones, haven't seen any
    pro vision cards yet.

Not sure on the one all pro per pack, I bought one pack and it did
have an all pro card, plus I bought a three pack cello (rack pack)
which actually had two all pro cards in it. I believe the wrapper
on the rack pack guarenteed at least one all pro or pro vision, but
on the wax packs themselves it said the all pro and visions are
randomly inserted/distributed in wax pack (i.e. no guarantee of one
    per pack).

I saw an interview with Fleer's high muckie-muck who said that
each pack would indeed have an all-pro or pro-vision card.

nope...I bought six packs, and got ONE All-Pro card. 'course, as Bob,
Roy, and Jon (you know who you are) can atest....my luck with packs is
legendary! This is obvious since I still have not completed last years'
All-Pro set (still need #'s 10 and 13...hint, hint, hint...)

I bought 10 packs and only came up with a card that looks like
a dream team card. The card is Howie Long (N.E. Boy).Is this going
to be like Fleers 1991 Dream Team,Canseco first and the rest to
    follow in Series II.

Looks like you'll have to open quite a few boxes just to
get the PRO-VISION cards (10).In one box I got Montana,Cunningham,
    and Singletary.

The all PRO cards Will be even tougher to get, there are 26 cards
    to the set........

Re .12: John, I initially thought of 1969 topps when I saw these cards,
but go back and compare, personally I like the '69s much better. The
muted colors of the fleer backgrounds, and that green, doesn't hold up
in comparison to the vibrant background colors used in 69.

Was 1969 topps what they reminded you of?

I haven't seen anything in this file about ERRORS,so I'll
give you the first one that I found. I opened 3 boxes and
did not find #411 Andre Rison, his card is #412 and Haywood
Jeffires is also #412,are there any others that I haven't
    seen ?

Well, after opening three boxes of these @^&#% cards, here's my
    opinions ...

o Fleer tried to be '69 Topps and '91 Skybox rolled into
    	  one, and failed miserably.

o It must be me because I seem to be the only one in here
to ever complain about Fleer's decollation, but their
decollation SUCKS. Three boxes, and not a complete set.

o The Pro-Vision and All-Pro cards are going to be a bitch
to complete. Buy a complete set from a dealer ASAP,
before the prices escalate ala the basketball rookie
    	  sensation sets.

Out of three boxes, I got 13 of the All-Pro cards (out
of 26). These are VERY nice cards, wish they had done the
    	  whole set this way.

Out of three boxes, I got 2 Pro-Vision cards; Bo Jackson,
    	  and Derrick Thomas.

o These are in wax packs, not poly packs. You know what
that means ... wax stains. I had very good luck rubbing
mine off yesterday with a paper towel -- maybe it was the
    	  humid hot weather.

Most packs are mis-wrapped, and about half of them aren't/
weren't even sealed! If I hadn't gotten the boxes directly
out of a factory-sealed case, I'd have been very suspicios.

And of course, next we'll be treated to Ultra Football (this
is not a sarcastic comment on my part, it's pure fact).

    RE: .16

Thanks for pointing that out John. I noticed that also
yesterday. This is like the third set within a year
(last year's football, the Ultra, and this yuear's football
    set) with mis-numbers.

I think some heads need to roll at QC at Fleer ..,..
281.20Thumbs down to Fleer EBBV03::MONDALTOTue Jul 09 1991 11:1215
When Topps Baseball went to the Cello/Packs (1991) I thought that
this would be the end of throwing one card away in each pack.I'm
really surprised that Fleer is doing this wax process on packaging
their cards, and John your right about the damaged cards.I must have
about 25 cards that have white spots on the front of the card which
is caused by under exposing.I'm going to send them back to Fleer and
again tell them about their crack Q.C. group, they must of all been
stiff when these were comming of the line. Roy your also right about
buying the Provision and All Pro card sets now before they skyrocket.

If I remember right, last years cards where selling for $27/box.
Why is it, that this year, you can pick them up for $10.50 at the show?
281.23but they spelled bengAls right for all the reg'lar playersCERBUS::KARLSONOnly 169 shopping days until Xmas!Tue Jul 09 1991 16:109

    Another error ...

Card #425 (Chris Smith, TE, CIN draft pick).

Bengals is incorrectly spelled "Bengels" (with an e rather
    than an a).

281.24rak-pack has visable all-pro DDIF::TANCILLlong may you runThu Jul 11 1991 02:4811

One possible way to fill the All-Pro set is by searching rak packs
for the all pros you need. There is one all-pro in every rak-pack,
visable on the bottom rear, you can look thru and see the players name.
If you are down to a resonable number left to get, this may be cost
effective. Trading, of course, is the best alternative to rushing out
and snapping up sets from dealers (i'm not convinced that even the
pro-visions are going to do anything like bball rookie sensations,
where is the David Robinson of the set? Sanders?)

#1 is Montana, has anyone seen sets of these for sale? On the
Pro-Vision in particular I would like to buy a set or two, the
all-pro's you can search rack packs for. Buying packs to get
a Pro-Vision set isn't very economically sound, but just what
is the set of 10 worth? I did see individual cards for sale at
a show this past weekend, Sanders for $3-$5, $3 for Bo and Joe,
anyone else see prices this past weekend?

I've picked up all the pro-vision cards for either .50 or 1$.

At the show I picked up 3 pro-vision card and one of them was
barry sanders, all three for 1.50$, (then traded Barry Sanders
to Roy... I still need #2 - Barry Sanders). And my local
dealer was selling all of them for 1$.

I was talking to Roy today and at the show he went to over the
weekend they were selling for 10$/set

Ayup. The first show I saw them at, there were 3 PV's for sale
... $1 each (Howie Long, Bruce Smith, Derrick Thomas was all he
had, but he said he'd had them all at the beginning of the show).
He also had AP's for $1 each.

This weekend, I found no AP's (most dealers appear to be holding
both their AP's and PV's back to make sets), but one guy had four
sets of PV's ... $10 each, and he wouldn't break the sets to
    sell me any singles.

Haven't seen any ads for these in SCD (yet).

After buying packs and searching rak-paks I have finally finished
  the All-Pro and Pro-Vision subsets. What a b*tch. I now have 2 full sets
1-432 and 5 cards shy of a third. With all the money I spent trying to
finish those subsets I could have bought them at a show and probably
  saved a little.
