238.0. "Who is Rock Raines ...?" by FRAGLE::GUTIERREZ () Wed Feb 06 1991 16:25

Has anyone noticed the following error that has gone
undetected for at least 2 years:

1990 TOPPS	name on card name on Beckett's
card # 180	Rock Raines Tim Raines

1991 TOPPS	name on card name on Beckett's
card # 360	Rock Raines Tim Raines

If you don't believe it, take out your cards and check them out,
I haven't seen this error listed in any of the cards magazines
I read (Beckett, Sports Cards Trader). Is this really an error,
or is there an explanation for this discrepancy ?. If it is an
error, I can believe it has gone undetected this long ...

Its just Tim Raines nickname. Check out Dwight Gooden cards his
nickname "Doc" appears on them. No error or variation.

Raines has requested that his name be listed as Rock and not Tim. If
you were astute enough to discover this " error" how did you miss the
"Doc" Gooden error in both sets?

If Raines requested that his name be listed as Rock and not Tim,
then why does it only appear as Rock in TOPPS sets and not in
    	DONRUSS sets ?.

The only player in the Bigs that has made a demand that his name
be shown in a certain way-and made it stick is Jeffery (don't call me
    Jeff) Leonard.
