234.0. "Progress On Want Lists" by BSS::G_MCINTOSH (ULTRIX NETWORKS, CSC/CS) Wed Jan 16 1991 15:11

Well, over the weekend I found 3 more cards that I needed. That puts
my want list down to needing only 7 cards to have 1 of every Charger
football card made that is not promotional. I can't believe it. I'm
really excited about this. I've needed 10 for a long time and over the
weedend I went to this guys house and we went through shoe boxes of
cards and I came away with 3 more.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do when I complete the collection, but
I'm having alot of fun doing this now.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my excitement.

Well, thanks to the help of John St.Onge, I have found 3 more cards
that I needed and that drops my want list down to only 4 cards. I
picked up these 3 via mailorder, but John pointed me in the correct
    direction. Thanks John.

Now all I need are 4 Fleer Team Action cards. Does anyone know of
someone out there who specializes in these Fleer Team Action cards?

It's getting down there now folks. Last evening I found 2 more of the
cards that I need and that again drops my want list. This time I'm
down to needing only 2 cards to fill my collection.

I need 2 Fleer Team Action cards from 1976. Anyone have any ideas?

John, I haven't done that yet, but I have thought about it. I'll
probably end up doing this because these 76 Fleer Team Action seem to
    be REAL hard to find.

    Thanks....Glenn

OK guys. Well, I've done it. I put the ad in SCD for the 2 1976 Fleer
Team Action cards that I need, based on the input y'all put in here.
We'll see how it goes. I think it's due to run November 22nd. I'm
keepin' my fingers crossed. What a relief it would be to have the
final 2 Charger cards that I'm missing.

Thanks for the help...we'll see how things turn out.

    Hey Glenn,

I hate to bum you out, but I used to have those cards. Occasoinally my
wife complains that my collection takes up to much space, so I succumb
to the pressure and get rid of something. About 2 years ago I lived in
Haverhill Ma and such a event took place. I finally decided upon
getting rid of both complete sets of those Fleer action cards and a
mess of dupes, about 200 cards in all. I figured they never would be
worth anything, I did try to sell them but nobody wanted them (until
now). So, in the ol'dumpster they went.

    With regrets,

    Jon

    Jon (or anyone elsein here),

I have a request ... whenever you have "worthless" stuff to dump please
don't dump them ... give them to a local kid ...or give me a call ...
I'll take them to the local Boy's Club or a kid's hospital.

    Take care,
    Greg

PS - Anyone who has some old toys the same deal goes ... please don't
chuck them if they are in at all reasonable shape ... I'll find someone
    who can use a freebie.

    	Here is another suggestion:

If you have something you don't want, and can't find any buyers,
find out from the magazines what their estimated value is, then
you donate them to some charitable institution like The Salvation
Army, for example, get a receipt, and you get a deduction from
your income tax at the end of the year, provided you itemize
    	your deductions.

Hey Jon. I think that's why these 2 cards are so hard for me to find.
They're not valuable, but no one collects these Fleer Team Action cards
so they're not out there for me to find.

I'll let you know in this note, any progress from my SCD ad.

234.10I DID IT!!!!!BSS::G_MCINTOSHWe have always been among you!Thu Nov 14 1991 13:2522
Well it figures. My ad is due to run in SCD in 2 weeks and suddenly I
found the 2 remaining cards that I needed to have.

Yes, you heard right. I FOUND MY LAST 2 CARDS!!!

I can't explain what it's like to not have a wantlist. It's different.
    It's lite. It's a floating sensation.

I heard of a guy in Carlisle, Pennsylvania who has old sports oddities
and sure enough he had my 2 cards. I asked what he wanted for them,
thinking that he would rip me over the coals, but he said $10.00 a
piece. He could have said $50.00 a piece. And since I've never found
another person who had them, I scarfed them up.

(You should be hearing music about now....) So, I now have one of every
Charger card made, within my domain. (the music should be peaking
    about now....)

So now all I have to do is keep up with the new sets that come out.
I think I'll miss not having to find the old stuff.

Well, now that I have all the cards, I got to thinkin' about what's
next. I decided that since the Chargers have 3 guys in the HOF, Sid
Gillman, Ron Mix and Lance Alworth that it'd be great to get them to
    sign their respective cards.

I sent each of them a card, along with a letter and a pen and a SASE.
They each signed the card and sent it back. Ron Mix even found an
error on his card. 1967 Topps card 125 (I think) says that Mix was all
Big 5. USC is in the PAC10, not Big8, or Big5 back then. So he not
only sent the card back but wrote on my letter to him about the faulty
    information on his card.

So, now the question becomes who WILL the Chargers have in the HOF!
Well, Dan Fouts and Charlie Joiner will certainly make it. I already
have Joiners autograph on his card from when I hit him up last year
outside Denver's Mile High Stadium, so I guess I better get Fouts'.

    That's my latest update.

Well into the 1960s, the PAC-10 (formerly PAC-8) was known as the
Big 6 (Oregon and Oregon St. didn't join till the 1960s). That's
    probably the error.

I haven't looked at this file in a long time, and am wondering if
there's a lot of interest in general in older football cards. A few
years back I know there wasn't. Other than sets of Topps 1974-75,
1977-80 that I want to hold onto, I've got a lot of cards (including
doubles) from most of the years 1971-80 and even some older star cards
from back into the 1950s that I wouldn't mind trading for comparably
valued baseball cards from the 1950s or 1960s. I know off hand for
big stars I have Jim Brown 1958 rookie (only VG), Jim Brown 1961
(mint), Unitas, Gifford, Starr, OJ Simpson 1970 rookie (EX), a couple
of Payton rookie cards (mint) and a bunch of other stuff if anyone's
interested in a swap for similar high-value cards of baseball stars...

Sorry to say, Glenn M., but I think I even have a couple of sets of
those Fleer team cards you were looking for (two cards per team per
year, right?). I might have been able to save you a lot of trouble
had I kept up semi-regularly in here. ;-(

Received my signed Dan Fouts card back in the mail last month, so
    that's pretty neat.

I'm starting on some sports oddities like 1971 Topps Poster Inserts,
1980 Marketcom, 1968 Fleer Big Signs, 1968 Topps Test Team, 1971 Topps
Game Cards, etc. and I'm having absolutely fantastic results.

I have 3 guys who I contact and they deal in sports oddities and
between them I've found everything except the 1968 Fleer Big Signs.
If you want names and numbers send mail to me. I'm somewhat hesitant
to put their names and numbers up on this notesfile. I'm not sure why
    I am, but I am.
