    Here's one for you John. Let's make the 10th set. It would consist of
    660 Baseball Card collectors. In place of position, we could put
    occupation. For stats, put the dollar investment each year per
    collector, number of sets purchased, number of shows attended, you get
    the idea.
    Sounds rediculous but you have a good point. How many pictures/poses of
    Canseco is the public willing to buy? They all sell though and it makes
    you wonder if the bottom will fall out of a great hobby.

    Unfortunately, my card only appears in the Senior League set now. Roy's
    and John's will be in the Umpires set.

191.6You will need BIG set boxes also.WRKSYS::SCHWARTZTue Nov 06 1990 14:306

    Certainly won't fit into any standard 800 ct. set box either. This
    is getting stupid. anything goes to sell more. I hope it blows up
    in their faces. The only way to stop'em is to stop buying and the
    way the frenzy is now, that's not going to happen.
      Did they say which series would contain the prospects?
191.8Two hundred billion more due out tomorrowWRKSYS::SCHWARTZTue Nov 06 1990 15:5112

      Kind of like me and Skybox. :>) I was kind of thinking back to the
    time this year when every body was buying Score baseball like crazy
    and most stores had driven prices up to a buck a pack or at least .75.
    In 1989 you couldn't give the crap away and you can still buy it at
    Caldors'. Make a pretty card or put in a few errors and everybody wants
    it. Now top it off with a few hundred useless cards of things like
    pictures of managers, their wives, and their dogs urinating on first
    base and you really have a set to go wild over. So you go crazy and
    buy all you can before they come out with two hundred billion factory
    sets.
      Did they mention price per pack w/16 cards?
191.101991 Score baseball is BLAH,IMO.WRKSYS::SCHWARTZWed Nov 07 1990 10:4121

      Gee, I hadn't heard that one. Guess I was too new at the time. Not
    that I am still not new to this hobby. I learn something new every day.
    I think that next year I will only collect stars on most of the cards
    and buy a couple of the trillions of sets they produce at the end of
    season. This way I can avoid the error craze as well. Have you ever
    tried to sell an error card to a dealer? He will look at you like you
    were out of your head for even thinking of such a thing. He knows they
    are probably the poorest investment he could make. If he has some and
    you are looking, he will be happy to part you from some cash and laugh
    at you behind your back as you walk away with your treasure.

      I had a chance to see the 1991 Score promo cards last night and I,m
    not impressed so far. They have a green border that is real ugly and
    a fairly nice picture on the back, but that is as far as it goes. If
    they don't have real nice subsets, then it's business as usual. I felt
    that they could have easily done better. Maybe I am just to close to
    Skybox bastetball and am expecting to much now. I would rather spend my
    money on Leaf Set and Upper Deck. Compared to their nice Hockey cards,
    the new Baseball is real ugly. Also they use a lot of green with yellow
    printing on the front and those aren't my favorite colors.
191.12more than one color=good newsWRKSYS::SCHWARTZWed Nov 07 1990 11:408

      That's true, I am addicted to opening wax as well. I am glad to hear
    that they have a mix of colors. I did like the photos on the back,
    they were large like Skybox. I like to see a players face and not
    just an action shot.

      Dave Justice was just voted one of the rookies of the year, but then
    I suspose everybody expected that or else they all know it already.

     Guess he expects Donruss to be the big seller next year or else
    he knows he can get the error freaks for a little extra.:>) Everyone
    will be running around to get those rare errors that Donruss is
    famous for. Nice cards anyway. Blue is a pleasing color.
191.15'91 promoELMAGO::JVERGOTue Nov 27 1990 16:409

    Heard a little about '91 ud today. Came from an article someone
    read over the weekend. Seems ud is having a little promo also.
    There will be a number (still undisclosed) of signed cards. Those
    players are reported to be Ryan, Fielder, and M Jordan. Once again
    these cards will only be found in the packs.

      The backs of the 91 Fleer cards kinda remind me of their football
    cards. I think they are using better stock also.
191.20What about this recent activity?ELMAGO::JVERGOThu Dec 06 1990 14:239

    \
    I've heard that some of these cards could be out in time for Christmas.
    But how can that be possible with all the activity taking place
    at the winter meetings. It would seem to me that the company that
    can market the most up to date set would have an advantage. Should
    we expect numerous variations, errors, and corrections or have all
    the cards been printed already?
    Jim
191.21FSOA::JSTONGEThu Dec 06 1990 14:547
    I would think that with Score and Donruss releasing in series that
    we'd get an up to date set before the seasons started, but I guess
    they said that wouldn't be the case. I'm sure we'll the get errors
    and variations no matter when they released the set ;-) I can just
    imagine the flurry of activity on SportsNet the next few weeks.

191.24SPAG's has SCORE boxes @ 12.50 per.PACKER::CORNELLThu Jan 03 1991 12:088
    SPAG's in Shrewsbury has SCORE boxes for 12.50 per box. Picked up 2
    boxes on saturday. These boxes are Series I only. In series I there
    are 4 border colors, with the black border (IMO) being the nicest
    contrast. Wonder if there will be other colors in the Series II sets?
        Even with two boxes, I still need about 15 cards to complete the
    series I set.

191.26Topps distributionOAW::ITZKOTopps '73 #613Tue Jan 15 1991 00:0715
    I'm still not sure of the distribution of the '91 Topps yet.

    I purchased two packs, no doubles, but I'm not close to a complete set.

    Cards arn't to bad looking, but not worth the .75 a pack the dealer
    was gouging, I mean charging.

191.27Great distribution for '91 ToppsSBGPX2::BELISLEMike Belisle MRO4-1/H20 297.3324Tue Jan 15 1991 12:3310
	The distribution of the '91 Topps baseball is very good. I purchased
	two boxes at $16.50ea (.75 is a ripoff!) and came very close to a
	complete. I purchased the remaining 50 cards or so I needed at a show.
	All-in-all, I paid $35 for two boxes plus $3.25 for the other cards
	I was missing.. Now I have a complete set plus some 400 doubles for
	only $38.25, I think that pretty good....Now Score, that's a different
	story. I'm waiting for the $20 factory sets to hit the stores.

191.28On the other hand.....FRAGLE::GUTIERREZThu Jan 24 1991 12:0411

    	Looks like it depends on your luck when you pick the wax boxes,
    	I bought 3 boxes of TOPPS, and still couldn't get a complete set,
    	I still need 50+ cards, and I got about 800 duplicates. As for
    	Score, I bought only 2 boxes, didn't get a complete set either,
    	but was only missing about 15 cards which I bought for $0.05 each
    	at a card show. On either case, my feeling is that if you buy
    	2 boxes or more of any company brand, you should get at least
    	a complete set. But that would be asking too much, wouldn't it...
    	The poor companies have to make their BIG profits as we all know.
